Gift for male with cancer

Not sure if this is the right area to post but I figure people who have been through / are going through cancer may be able to help.

I've just discovered that a male friend has cancer. He's currently off work. I want to send him a gift to let him know he's in my thoughts. What would you suggest?

Thank you x

Without sounding a twat - it depends what he'd like usually.
He's still him, he'd like flowers or chocolate if he did before. Or a jokey card if that is his personality.

Don't let cancer cloud how you see him and relate to him. It often does.

What’s your budget?

My first thought would be an amazon prime/netflix/spotify subscription, wifi or itunes voucher. Likely will be a lot of sitting around in hospitals with very little to do.

Warm clothes, hat, slippers, cardi, pj’s. Or a soft throw or bedblanket. Pillow or cushion.

There’s always the food option, although that’s always tricky. If he hasn’t started treatment yet a box of quality stuff to eat while he still can.

I really appreciated Cook vouchers (if there's one near him). You really need feeding when you've got cancer.

Have a look on ‘not another bunch of flowers’ for ideas. Totally get that it feels tricky.

I was thinking a really long phone charging cable as when I was in hospital it was annoying that when my phone was on charge it wouldn't reach my bed.

I was thinking something warm as is it true cancer patients feel the cold? He loves food but wasn't sure if a voucher for a coffee shop or something would be any good?

Not a massive budget, just want to send a token to let him know he's in my thoughts.

What type of cancer does he have and what treatment is he having? It varies so much.

A long charging cable is a brilliant idea though if he's going to be an inpatient for any length of time. I might get myself one tbh - thanks for the idea :)

A really good portable charger might be better than a cable? Cables break and get tangled..

I haven't been a cancer patient myself but I've been through my son having chemo.

Invaluable things were-

A decent portable charger
6ft cable
A couple of nice fleece blankets
Magazines/ puzzle books
DVDs

DS really struggled with the cold and dry lips so a nice lip balm was handy too

We had a bag permanently packed up ready for emergency admissions and included all these things!!
