It was picked up when he was in hospital recently with a virus. He has been referred to consultant at another hospital.

I know that these things can be completely innocent but Im just a bit worried as we have bad family history.

I have no experience, but I'm sure you are worried and didn't want your post to be unacknowledged

all I can offer are the standard 'it'll be alright' platitudes, but I'm sure it will be

madmarchhare · 12/06/2007 16:24

I know what you mean, its what Id say .

Madmarchhare - sorry you have these worries.

It is true that many heart murmurs are completely innocent and as he's been unwell it may just be a 'leftover' from that. But I know that won't stop you worrying about it.

dd has significant heart problems so if there's anything you want to ask just shout. What is your family history - if you don't mind me asking?

Paternal grandmother had attack at 39 and father at 43.
I dont know if it is even possible for these things to be related.

Generally (in my non-medical opinion) the condition that mainly causes early heart attack - very high cholesterol - doesn't give rise to a murmur. Obviously there are other causes though. The cholesterol thing is often genetic.

Did they both survive mmh?

misdee · 12/06/2007 17:55

i dont think they are conn3ected

as you know, dh has serious heart problem, all 3 of the kids have been screened, dd1 has a murmur and leaking valve, dd2 has a murmur as well.

generally murmurs are innocent, and can be heard more when ill or just after illness

madmarchhare · 12/06/2007 18:03

yes, they survived, but my grandmother went on to die at 63. She never stopped smoking, didnt chage diet, so...

Dad had triple bypass and his surgeon believes him to be healthier now than he ever was before.

I already watch my cholesterol because of this.

Misdee - they were querying leaky valve as well, which is why they want this other guy to look at him.

Hows Peter?, have they decided what to do?
