Good morning everyone,

Welcome to the new thread, and the club that nobody wants to join. Our previous thread is here.

Anyone with any type of cancer is welcome. And we will hold your hand if you're waiting to find out whether or not you have cancer at all.

If you've got a loved one with cancer then you can get support here.

Please feel free to reintroduce yourself so we don't all have to remember from the previous thread!

Hello Lacies.

I hope you don't mind that I've just read your thread and the previous one. I found my way here from aibu, from the cancer fight thread and the brave the shave one.

I'm going to go now because it feels intrusive to lurk but I wanted to say thank you for the insight into what living with cancer day to day means. I have a friend who is affected by breast cancer and I think I understand more than I did before O read this thread.
I also think I have learnt not to take my health for granted. And I feel humbled by your stories.

TQ and others, you use whatever language you damn well like to describe your experience and tell anyone who criticises you to FOTTFSOF.

plannedshock, if you are there, I have thought of you many times throughout the day and your story will stay with me. You are an inspiration to your girls and your love for them shines through.

Everything I'm saying sounds trite, but it didn't feel right to say nothing. Thank you all.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 07/10/2018 08:24

Hello Shednik thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to really try to understand what life is like for your friend at the moment. I think like so many people with chronic or life limiting illnesses, I find it frustrating how few people are prepared to really listen and try to understand. That isn’t a criticism because before this happened to me I probably had tons of preconceived ideas and would have relied on those if I was supporting a friend. So to actually want to look at and learn about the reality is quite rare in my experience and very valuable. You are obviously a great friend to her Flowers

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 07/10/2018 08:30

I am a bit worried about our Leslie having been buried under a pile of saucepans

purpleunicorns · 07/10/2018 08:52

Hope you had a lovely night Ranout and your wig managed to stay on Grin

Simmi feeling like you have flu is completely normal unfortunately, that's the worst bit about chemo for me. I normally feel a bit better by day 5/6

Shednik your friend is lucky to have someone like you, if your friend is on Mumsnet then tell her to feel free to join. There's plenty of advice and laughs along the way

TwitterQueen1 · 07/10/2018 09:02

Thank you Shednik for taking the time and trouble to understand Flowers.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 07/10/2018 09:03

Namechange Leslie you are either a) incredibly brave b) incredibly organised c) insane. Possibly all 3. definitely all three!

It was a wonderful day. But tiring, of course. I didn't do much of the work myself! :)

Mrsemcgregor sorry for being a twit. I thought your appointment was this week Blush

ranout I hope you had a wonderful evening Flowers

Simmi I hope you feel better soon Brew

Welcome Mrstraveller but sorry that you need to join us!

TQ no pizza this time, but there was ice cream :) good luck with your friend

Waving to everyone

Leslie - So glad to read the lunch went well! When you say there was ice cream was it your much coveted home made Nutella ice cream?

Ranout - How was your night out? Hope you and your new wig had a good time and kept well away from any flaming sambuccas.

Shednik - What a heartwarming post. You’re the best kind of friend.

Namechange - How’s the puppy? Any less farty? Charcoal biscuits apparently lessen the smell Smile

How is everyone else? Hope you’re all having a nice weekend. x

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 07/10/2018 14:34

Good afternoon lacies

I'm pleased to report I did manage to stay away from naked flames and the wig stayed on, if a bit uneven! Must practice with it before next time!

@WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo wow 20 for lunch yesterday, hope your not tired out today.

@Shednik you could be an honorary friend of ours. I'm sure your friend really appreciates you.

What is it with parping pets, my DD has just announced Hermione cat is sat in her bed parping and dribbling - I'm assuming that's dribbling from the mouth but I'm not going to investigate! Grin

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 07/10/2018 14:56

Aimlessly yes, it was the Nutella ice cream - very popular! I ought to try other recipes really. But it's just so delicious Grin

ranout I'm glad you didn't catch fire :) I used to fiddle a lot with my wig and always thought it was wonky. I don't think anyone else even noticed! Everyone is in their own world, worrying about their own "imperfections".

I'm quite tired now so taking it very easy. Luckily I live with my parents so they share all the work!

Leslie - Was wondering if the Biscoff spread could be a Nutella alternative. Or as well as! 😀 Nutella and Biscoff swirl ice cream.

CANCER SUPPORT THREAD 65 - for anyone with cancer or waiting for cancer tests (pets welcome!)
WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 07/10/2018 17:59

That's a thought. Though I'm a bit hit and miss with Biscoff now as I ate so many of the biscuits for my chemo nausea the first time round!

I've got some M&M chocolate spread so I might try that next instead of Nutella.

I do also have a Ben and Jerry's recipe book Grin

Fear not, my ice cream machine will be getting a good workout.

OP posts:
TwitterQueen1 · 07/10/2018 18:19

Is Biscoff the same as Dulce de Leche?

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 07/10/2018 18:25

No, it's like speculoos biscuits - slightly spicy/gingerbready.

OP posts:
ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 07/10/2018 20:42

Biscoff is delicious! I definitely need to try the spread. My lovely local cafe (who have said I can just sit and people watch and not order when I'm having a shit day!) throw these at my kids!

iVampire · 07/10/2018 21:54

I think Leslie’s lunch is the only time I’ve seen someone described as brave, and no-one to mind it!

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 08/10/2018 07:04

Oooops good point! Blush Grin

Mrstraveller · 08/10/2018 08:49

Morning all

Aimlessly

Good point re the letters thing and awful they mixed up your scans. At the moment I do keep everything that comes through the post even appointment letters for scans etc and shove them in a file.

I did talk to my husband at the weekend about him opening the letters for me in future so might give that a try and see how it works out.

Quinoa&Prosecco

Not sure how I see the photo of Hermione? New to site so can post and not much else.

Simmi

Know what you mean about wanting them to say it's all fine!

I like the Biscoff biscuits but not sure how I'd get on with the spread!

AimlesslyPurposeful · 08/10/2018 10:05

MrsT - The spread is rather nice. Not that I’ve ever spread it on anything. Just eat it off a spoon Blush
Thinking about what to spread it on though! Possibly a good topping for a cheesecake or squashed between the layers of a sponge cake.

It’s a good job I feel nauseous most of time really or I’d be the size of several Hippos.

Namechange -

AimlesslyPurposeful · 08/10/2018 10:08

Oops hit post accidentally!

Namechange & iVamp - Thought the same when I saw the B word. 😁

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 08/10/2018 11:16

Goooood morning

I'm having my usual Monday after chemo swollen lymph node thing. It's a bit worse than usual, but I find that oddly reassuring.

Also Macmillan have sorted out my DS1500 so I can apply for a blue badge and hopefully leave the house a bit more Grin very excited! Less excited about having to have passport photos taken...

Mrstraveller I can't see Hermione either. Photos sometimes don't show up for people using the website if they were posted using the app, or something weird like that Confused it seems to happen quite often on other threads!

I keep the most recent letter from my consultant in my little "emergency folder" (with chemo book, list of medication etc.) in case I have to go to A&E or anything.

I hope everyone is having an OK Monday so far!

OP posts:
purpleunicorns · 08/10/2018 11:36

Aimless that is absolutely shocking about how they mixed up your scans! I hope you at least got an apology Shock

Leslie if you don't want to go and get your photos done in a photo both there's a passport photo app you can download and do it at home then email it through to the council for your blue badge. That reminds me I still need to do mine

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 08/10/2018 11:40

Thank you purple. I will have a look for that :) saves me searching for one of those booths. I can't even remember when I last saw one!

OP posts:
AimlesslyPurposeful · 08/10/2018 12:41

Purple - Had no idea that you could take passport photos on a app. That’s ace!

AimlesslyPurposeful · 08/10/2018 12:45

Leslie - Sorry to read you’re in discomfort today. Are you still using the pain relief patches? Can you take other painkillers while you’re on them? Ibroprofen is often used to ease swelling. Might that help?

purpleunicorns · 08/10/2018 12:55

Whoever came up with it is a genius! The closest photo booth to me is where is work and I don't fancy going in and everyone asking me questions. I know they only do it because they care are nosy but I can't be bothered with people. I'm quite content watching trashy TV and doing my crochet like a old woman Grin
