I have allways taken the medicine stag with food and wonder if there is anytelseI should do do.😮

How much omeprazole are you taking and when do you take it?

Jellyjumpers · 26/09/2018 22:20

One tablet first thing in the morning. I am now in so much pain eased by lying down lifting my legs to chest. Good thing this is one of the physieo exercises.

How many mg per tablet?

Moviestar · 26/09/2018 22:24

Naproxen should be taken as a twice daily dosage. Not normally taken three times daily.what strength are they and what strength is the omeprazole ,OP ?

endofthelinefinally · 26/09/2018 22:24

Naproxen 3 times a day is really bad for your stomach. Are you alternating it with paracetamol?
Have you tried antispasmodics like buscopan? These are generally good for bowel pain.
Also there are better meds for nerve pain. Your doctor really needs to refer you to a pain clinic.
I take 30 to 40mg omeprazole daily. I can take up to 80mg if I need it, on the advice of my gp.

ihatethecold · 26/09/2018 22:25

You should stop.
I had the same problem this week.
I awake my dr today and she said I should stop because it’s damaging my gut.
Been given prescription codiene to try instead.
It took 3 days being off naproxen to stop the pain in my stomach.

endofthelinefinally · 26/09/2018 22:27

You are putting yourself at risk of a gastric bleed. You need better management. I wouldn't take any more naproxen if you are in a lot of pain.

endofthelinefinally · 26/09/2018 22:28

I mean stomach pain.

endofthelinefinally · 26/09/2018 22:35

If you vomit anything like blood or coffee grounds you need A&E. Ditto black, sticky stools. Both signs of bleeding.
Hopefully won't happen but you need to be aware.

Jellyjumpers · 26/09/2018 22:42

I feel the whole thing has been baddly managed. I have 30/500 cocodamol and will check the doses of the other medication. I am still in too much pain to get a full nights sleep and an exausted. I would like something like amitriptiline or a couple of days of diasipam to relieve the muscle spazom and sleep, because I know if I was not affected exausted I could tolerate the pain.

The nurse in my drs said I should take naproxcin 4 hourly for 5 days. I questioned this as I was concerned that it was too strong and I had previously been in so much pain from naproxcin that the kid out of hours sent me to a&

you need to stop taking naproxen and all other nsaids (ibuprofen, diclofenac, aspirin...)
go back to gp asap
you need better pain management

consider complaining about gp.

naproxen is a very effective medicine, but the side effects can be bad and for longer term treatment it should really be taken under close supervision with regular blood tests.

redsummershoes · 26/09/2018 22:46

tbh that nurse sounds dangerous.
if you had previous bad reaction to naproxen they shouldn't have prescribed it again.

Jellyjumpers · 26/09/2018 22:49

I will be aware of bleeding. I feel I am practically living in drs or hospitals at the moment with all of this.

The naproxcin is 250 mg. I am not sure about the omeprozole as it is downstairs and I am in too much pain to check. Is 20 mg a possible dude dose?

Omeprazole comes in 10mg and 20mg capsules as far as I know. Those are the strengths I have.

Jellyjumpers · 26/09/2018 23:06

Well they have not actually given me another prescription yet. I had some naproxcin which had been prescribed for endometriosis pain but I had not taken it all as did not find Ed effective at managing my pain. I instead found econac supositories to be magical in the way they revived die rid of the pain. I asked if I could be prescribed declofinac or use the econac instead of naproxcin and the nurse said that I needed to continue to take naproxcin as the milder nsaid. However she was not able to prescribe and was instead messaging the dr during the consultation. I was given the option of waiting until the end of the gps appointments for him to write the prescription, or it would be sent to my pharmacy, which has not yet happened a week later.

I am really frustrated with the whole thing as was told I would be seeing a gp gp after a telephone consultation. When I got to the appointment this had been changed to a nurse. I did not think this was an appropriate way to handle ongoing using pain following a hospital admission.

Thanks found a strip and the omeprozole is 20 mg so it does seem to come in the doses you suggest.

Appreciate all the support, this feels really loanly as my family things I am making a fuss about nothing. However, they only generally support if a limb drops off. They ew

Ring your gp in the morning. Emphasise the severe stomach pain. You need proper assessment and care by a doctor experienced in pain management.
I hope you get some rest tonight.

Moviestar · 26/09/2018 23:34

If the naproxen is 250 and not 500 then taking three or four daily is not an overdose.
However if you are having stomach pain you need to stop taking the antiinflammatories now and go back to GP.

Moviestar · 26/09/2018 23:37

If you only had one omeprazole 20 today you could take a second ,it might help calm stomach til you see GP and have your meds changed .

Jellyjumpers · 26/09/2018 23:43

Thanks
A I have a follow-up appointment with my gp next Friday, but agree I will need to be seen sooner. The only thing is I am away with work and while I could have a telephone appointment I am not able to get to my gp. I assume IShould call 111 or go to a walk in. I am away quite a bit with work and it seems to be then that I have problems making meaning it is harder to see a gp. I do not think there are any major differences in my lifestyle when I am away but I should probably think about this more closely.

My omneprazole is in 40mg capsules. Naproxen is v tough on your stomach but there are several alternatives. If you can, just try nurofen plus or generic ibuprofen alternated with paracetamol - but as pps have said it may be best to stay off all nsaids if you can to let your stomach settle & speak to your gp about an alternative.

Jellyjumpers · 26/09/2018 23:58

Thanks it is good to know that it is not an overdose., but obviously Needs changing.

I should try and get some sleep as need to leave at 6:50 for an 8an meeting.

What do you think is the best way to push for more effective pain relief? I am still awake have tried reading, a test heat pad, just lying and meditation but as soon as I get to sleep pain wakes me up and I now feel like an over tired baby that is too tired to find sleep.

OP posts:
redsummershoes · 27/09/2018 07:12

have you tried physio?

Jellyjumpers · 27/09/2018 14:05

Thanks yes I had physieo on Wednesday. He felt the muscles were very tight and thinks the stomach pain is because of stomach pain which he thinks I should he seen by the Dr for further tests.

I do think physieo will he useful but I do not feel supported to manage pain until it works. I am hardly sleeping as I get woken by the pain. I do not know how to carry on and feel my work and social activities are struggling.
