I was just wondering this as I've just picked up my pill (Yasmin) and for 6 months cost was 60 euro (around 40 pounds I think) - do any of you use Yasmin? How much is it in UK? How muchare other pills?

It's a long time since I have taken the pill (it doesn't agree with me) but IIRC contraception is free on the NHS.

MrsSpoon · 11/06/2007 17:27

LOL great minds.

Pixiefish · 11/06/2007 17:28

Prescriptions are free in Wales

mankyscotslass · 11/06/2007 17:29

yup was free in Scotland when there and down here in England too

admylin · 11/06/2007 17:29

Really, so you just pay for the prescription whatever kind of pill you need?

OP posts:
RibenaBerry · 11/06/2007 17:31

No, you don't pay a prescription charge at all. Contraception is always free, totally free.

Only the pill mind. Never understood that...

kittylette · 11/06/2007 17:32

free

lyrabelacqua · 11/06/2007 17:32

It's completely free, no charge whatsoever.

kittylette · 11/06/2007 17:32

you just go, ask for it, get a prescription, take it to the chemist and get it.

free

Ladymuck · 11/06/2007 17:33

I thought that condoms were free if you got them from the family planning clinc? Cap is free too.

Lizzer · 11/06/2007 17:34

Ribena, I think any form of contraception is free?Isn't it? I didn't pay for my implant and my friend didnt pay for her coil, as long as you go through the family planning service and not maire stopes or other private places. Free condoms there too..as many as you like/need!

kittylette · 11/06/2007 17:34

yup condoms are free from FP, but they make you feel like an eejit getting them!

RibenaBerry · 11/06/2007 17:35

Yes, I think they are, but I don't think that you can just go to your GP and get a presciption. Happy to be set right on that.

When I was a teenager, a friend went to the FP clinic for free condoms and said that the ones they gave her were really nasty 'extra safe' ones which smelt odd (!)Kind of put me off the idea really.

kittylette · 11/06/2007 17:36

the free ones at FP gave DP a rash!

admylin · 11/06/2007 17:36

Just another reason to be fed up of living abroad! Here you have to practically beg for a prescription and that only at a gynocologists and then they only give you it if you go for your regular check ups. I was planning on getting my next batch in UK when we come in summer (to avoid the dreaded chair and check up!) but I would pay I think as I live abroad ( I wouldn't mind).

OP posts:
RibenaBerry · 11/06/2007 17:38

Well there you go, I was wrong about the contraception (sorry!), but seemingly right about the general nastiness of FP clinic condoms!

MrsSpoon · 11/06/2007 17:40

Admylin, surely putting your feet up in stirups is a small price to pay for a life in the sun?

admylin · 11/06/2007 17:42

I wish! I'm in Berlin and it's bloody hot and humid but not very pleasant! Now if I was in Greece or some southern place near the sea I might not mind the stirrups twice a year as I wouldn't be fleeing to the UK to recover from my daily life in Berlin!

OP posts:
MrsSpoon · 11/06/2007 18:59

ROFL, no I don't suppose Berlin is a good trade.

Blandmum · 11/06/2007 19:00

Contraception is free in the UK.

You can get condoms free at the FPA

olivo · 11/06/2007 19:46

£26.50 for a visit to the GP and around £6 for the Pill itself - its counted as a private prescription here - think that's 3 months worth, but i get quite a few months in one go so cant really remember.shocking.
