Allergy - IMO. Probably very hard to know what to, if he woke up with it. He could take an antihistamine (piriton or sthg non-sedating), it may help it feel better. It it gets worse, breaks the skin, difficulty breathing - def to doctors.

it could be a drug reaction. Does he feel ill?

Could be Urticaria (not sure of spelling). I had it recently. I didn't go to doc and it ended up as some sort of infected excema. It was very itchy and warm. Try oilatum for the bath and eurax cream. Also an antihistamine tablet. If that doesn't shift it, see GP.

Has he been sunbathing?

Could be heat rash or midget bites.

Bitten by midgets, where does this man go of a weekend .

hmm. my DD had german measles a while ago. The Dr was pretty non-committal about it tbh but it started with a high temp & fatigue and a bit of tummy ache. Then all better and the rash came out a few days later.
