Help!! Whooping cough/croup/something else?

My DD (4) has had a terrible cough for the last week or so - she is not coughing all the time, but when she starts she can't stop and she goes red in the face. It has also led to her vomiting at times. She can have a number of prolonged periods of coughing each day, but is absolutely fine the rest of the time.

I just started looking on the internet and came across a website where you can listen to various examples of children with whooping cough. DD sounds just like one of these. BUT she has been vaccinated - so is there still a chance she could get it? THat is why I wonder if it is croup, but I'm not really sure what the difference is,.

I haven't taken her to see the doctor yet (bad mum emoticon ) because I thought she just had a cough.

I am taking her to docs tomorrow but in the meantime I wonder if anyone could offer any helpful hints?

thanks

sarah - my dd is much younger (9 months) but has just had croup. she had the same as you mention BUT was also lethargic, had a raised temp and was extremey clingy and not herself. she also ended up in hospital on anebuliser at one point. dont know if these are typical croup symptoms or not?

however, when i was young, about 7 or so, i had an ongoing cough for weeks that sounds just like your dd, making me sick etc and really hard to stop, but not unwell. i was treated with asthma meds but they didnt work and eventually, it just went.
i think you're right to take her to the docs now, fingers crossed she'll get better soon. good luck
