Dental advice re pain relief for teen whilst waiting for referral

DS has additional needs and needs an extraction.
He's been referred to specialist NHS to have it done under sedation.

In the meantime he's managed the pain with ibuprofen. Last night he was in horrendous pain and after calling 111 I gave him co-codamol. I obviously can't give him that for more than three days though. He's had toothache for the last three weeks or so.

Can the dentist prescribe anything stronger that'll help til he gets the appointment?

The dentist can prescribe very strong co-codamol, and you can take it for longer than three days if it's on prescription.

Meanwhile has he tried Orajel? It's just a topical local anaesthetic but it does take the edge off the pain for a short while.
