Is it normal to feel wiped out the day after a migraine?

It's been so long since I've had a migraine with a headache (for the last few years I've only had the aura and nausea) that I've sort of forgotten what it's like.
I had a migraine in the night last night. Thankfully it had substantially disappeared this morning, leaving only a mild headache.
But I have been exceptionally wiped out/utterly exhausted all day, despite taking it very very easy.
Is this normal?

Yes, I’ve always found the day after is a write off.

iklboo · 17/09/2018 17:51

It is for me, yes. I feel like I've run back to back marathons after a migraine.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 17/09/2018 17:52

Ugh, totally. I always think it feels a bit like a migraine "hangover."

corlan · 17/09/2018 17:52

Totally normal. There's no pain anymore but you feel as if you have a hangover. It sucks.

IPokeBadgers · 17/09/2018 17:52

Totally normal unfortunately.

GeorgeTheHippo · 17/09/2018 17:53

Yes. Completely. One day headache. One day exhaustion. Up and running day three.

I’m a regular sufferer of migraines - they are awful. I find the ‘post drome’ day after the headache is still pretty bad, very tired, clumsy and a very dry mouth. It’s not until the next day that I might feel better.

Lancelottie · 17/09/2018 17:55

Yes. I walk around wearily and warily the day after, as if any sudden movement might set it all off again. Poor you.

TheQueef · 17/09/2018 17:57

Yup if I'm bad I get three day post drome where I'm bloody useless to man or beast.
It isn't painful as a ppm said it's the eggshells you walk on trying not to trigger another.

Neptunesgiraffe · 17/09/2018 18:03

Yes me too. I have a kind of "bruised" and tender feeling and I'm often tired. But the pain of the migraine has usually worn off by this point.
I'm usually dehydrated a bit, too as I sometimes struggle to drink when I have a migraine.

jadeywadeyyox · 17/09/2018 18:29

For me, I feel extremely hungover for a day or two after it's gone away (my migraines normally last a couple of days upto a week)

augustusglupe · 17/09/2018 19:47

Yes, I always feel a bit spaced out the day after and strangely calm, relieved it’s all over...as I’m always terribly sick with my migraines too.

Peaspleaselouise · 17/09/2018 22:11

Yes. I feel ‘jet lagged’ for a day or two afterwards. And as a PP said, almost ‘bruised’. Normally emotionally wobbly too. Poor you.

iamablockhead · 18/09/2018 08:19

Thanks all. That's reassuring to know. For most of the day yesterday I still had a headache, albeit about 90% attenuated from the migraine pain. I guess that's probably normal too

Totally normal. Occasionally I used to get the opposite - a massive surge of energy and well-being which I used to clean the house - sadly haven't had that in years!
