i am booked in to have a varicose vein stripped next month (and on a seperate occassion thread veins injected with some foam stuff) i'm not too worried about the injections but i wondered if anyone who has had a vein stipped could tell me how it was? i am staying in hosp. overnight which came as a suprise - thought it would be an in/out job! can you walk around the following day ok and drive? how painful?! thanks

no no noooo! Are you fully aware of the op? Far as I know there are a number of methods.

I haven't gone ahead with mine because I'm not in a position to have weeks off 'work' or childcare and I'm not sure if I'm done having children.

It is a big op and you will need plenty of recovery time. My mum's colleague was off work for a month.

Good Luck!

Does this help?

"Vein ligation and stripping typically do not require a hospital stay and are done on an outpatient basis with regional or general anesthesia. Most people go home the same day of their surgery.

Most likely, you will be able to return to work within a few days. After several weeks, you can resume normal leisure and recreational activities."

Dh had this and was off work for two days, then back shorter days for a couple of days and then OK. I guess it depends on different factors, but he had quite a few done.

ooh dear! i'm feeling nervous now. i wasn't aware recovery takes so long but as a sahm i guess it shouldn't be a problem. my dh will be at home for about 5 weeks after the op so he can do the childcare until i feel better! i have been waiting for about 18 years to get this done as i got v. veins as a young teenager and i am done now with having babies. i opted for stripping so that it is over and done with (fingers crossed!) anyone else outthere actually had this treatment?
