Will my foot fall off if I wait until morning?

I scraped my feet on some muddy gravel yesterday, taking a chunk out of my left foot. It’s pretty painful but it’s been well cleaned and dressed with antiseptic stuff. This afternoon it’s started swelling up and is now hot to the touch and so painful to walk on that I’m limping. I can get an emergency GP appointment in the morning but I’m a bit worried about it getting worse overnight and them having to cut it off Blush I have an immune system deficiency so am at higher risk of infection than average. I used to be on a daily dose of penicillin and found an old pack so have taken one of those and am sort-of hoping that it will settle down by morning and I’ll just complete the course.

Sleep or 111?

Given the risk of sepsis with your immune issues I would get seen asap.

Emmkayy · 10/09/2018 00:45

I wouldn’t risk waiting if I were you. Call 111

PerspicaciaTick · 10/09/2018 00:53

111

Rhynswynd · 10/09/2018 00:55

Off to after hours gp or a&e. Don't wait.
Cutting your foot was an accident and having a immune deficiency would class as an emergency Grin
Covered on all fronts.
I hope it is ok and settles down but do please get it checked tonight

DramaAlpaca · 10/09/2018 00:58

Get yourself checked out tonight OP.

LoveAGoodChat · 10/09/2018 01:07

Isn't swelling, painful and hot to touch all symptoms of cellulitis ?...I would get it checked out tonight if you can,

delphguelph · 10/09/2018 01:17

Yes tonight.

Singlenotsingle · 10/09/2018 01:29

Go to A&E.

Morning! I ignored all your safe advice, put a nightie and knickers on in case the paramedics needed to cart me off to hospital in the middle of the night (officer thinking, that) and went to bed. My foot hasn’t fallen off and the swelling is significantly reduced so i’ve stocked up on hydrocolloid plasters and wound healing cream and limped into work to astonish my colleagues with tales of my own idiocy.

Thanks all!

Keep an eye on it (and the rest of you - don't want you falling off your foot!).

Hopefully the infection is beating a retreat.

How dare you ignore my advice...I am a random stranger on the internet GrinGrin
I am glad your foot is better Smile

ThomasRichard · 11/09/2018 11:10

Sorry, random stranger on the internet Sad

Foot this morning: a bit yuck but less painful. The hydrocolloid plasters came off in the shower so I’ve put on some no-pull silicone ones (I have a great collection of plasters now) and a tubigrip and that seems to be doing the trick.

Tubigrip is amazing stuff. I am so glad your foot is doing better. Feets is important Grin
I am a bit jealous of your plaster collection. My husband only buys rubbish ones Sad
