Why do I wake up every day with ONE puffy, red, 'quilted' eye? PICS

Hi please see images. Every single morning for the past several weeks I wake up with my right eye very puffy and can only describe as 'quilted' on the inner upper eyelid corner. Also red underneath and very creased. I'm 47. Only one eye is affected and therefore not because of an eye cream. I visit my opticians regularly (wear glasses for reading, my actual eyes are healthy). The photos don't do it justice, I'm not being vain to ageing; one eye is so different to the other IRL.

What could cause this? Googling has proved fruitless!
Anyone had this please?

One of mine does this but under is also looks bruised like I have a black eye. Taking an antihistamine seems to help but might be a coincidence

Dc1 had something similar, turned out he was rubbing his nose and then eyes during his sleep. Does it feel sore or gritty?

Snooks1971 · 08/09/2018 19:56

Thanks - m0ther that's interesting about taking an antihistamine.

Gummy - yes it's slightly gritty and sore

Now I'm thinking about it, my right nostril always feels slightly blocked and I snore like a old man (always have done).

I wonder if it being the right eye and right nostril it might be connected. Think I will go to the GP with my flattering photos....

That looks like when I've had an eye infection. For some reason it would always be awful when I woke up and get better over the day. Maybe try washing it out with a sterile eye wash before bed and on waking up, and keep hands very clean - see if that helps. And see your GP too if you can.

My eyes look like that when I get Blepharitis. I use Blephaclean wipes which help keep it at bay.

Snooks1971 · 08/09/2018 20:47

Thanks Xiao and somewheresorted
I've never heard of Blepharitis - googled it and some symptoms are similar but it isn't itchy or crusty, and only one eye affected. Yes it does get better over the day but is still there. I'm mystified.

Thanks all so much, will make an appt at GP I think

Did you get to the bottom of it? I’m the same on both sides!!

iCorvidae · 08/06/2022 21:07

Do you change your pillowcase often?

Slampunk · 08/06/2022 21:11

Sorry to hijack an old thread. In agony. Weirdly I have bought silk pillows recently. Surely it can't be them? Probably started around the same time but that can't make sense... they're supposed to help?!

Mine I think is allergic. But to what? I've stopped everything and it's still coming and going every few days!!
