Leaving a tampon in other night

Is it a safe and good idea? I've always worn pads at night since this one time I woke up in a bloody mess (probably TMI) after wearing a tampon to bed but I was bleeding very heavily during that time. But I find pads uncomfortable to sleep in and i find i dont get as much cramps and pain when I use tampons for some reason

Yes it's fine. Put it in just before bed and remove first thing in the morning. They're ok for 8 hours

Overnight not othernight

Yeah absolutely fine I used to do this all the time. Since giving birth I can't stand tampons anymore.

Smellyoulateralligator · 07/09/2018 22:18

Personally I wouldn’t and I can’t rememn if it’s advised against. Sorry.

I get heavy flow and have bled through enough times. I use two nighttime pads. I once used my MIL’s incontinence pads and they worked really well.

It’s shit 🙁

PurpleDaisies · 07/09/2018 22:18

You can wear them for 8 hours at a time. Over night is fine.

Smellyoulateralligator · 07/09/2018 22:19

Maybe it’s generational. Toxic shock syndrome was a big thing when I was growing up.

Sarahandduck18 · 07/09/2018 22:21

Mooncup

PatriciaHolm · 07/09/2018 22:21

Never occurred to me not to. TSS is really rare.

Bojangles33 · 07/09/2018 22:22

This is one of the many benefits of a menstrual cup.

AppleKatie · 07/09/2018 22:23

Provided you stick to less than 8 hours it’s absolutely fine.

I’ve never understood people who say they wear two pads - where do they put the second one?

Belt and braces - so super tampon and pad on the first couple of nights is helpful.

DramaAlpaca · 07/09/2018 22:24

I'm post-menopausal now & remember the TSS scares well, but I never worried about using them overnight for a maximum of 8 hours.

Distancehelp · 07/09/2018 22:25

Wouldn’t occur to me not to. A friend sets and alarm to she wakes up and changes if during the night but I’ve always found I just wake up when it needs changing.

noprobllamas · 07/09/2018 22:27

I can't go more than 2 or 3 hours without waking up (or being woken up) anyway It should be fine

Apple I make them into a double strength extra long one. But it doesn’t really work 😞 the top one floods and the bottom one is spotless.

I have slept with two pillows propping up my bum and then mad dash to the loo 😑

Sparrowlegs248 · 07/09/2018 22:33

As someone who has had TSS twice, I would say no.

PurpleDaisies · 07/09/2018 22:36

www.nhs.uk/conditions/toxic-shock-syndrome/

Here’s the NHS advice. It says to put in a fresh one before bed and change in the morning.

GiraffeObsessedBaby · 07/09/2018 22:41

Unless you're a lucky soul who sleeps 10+ hours then no issue as long as fresh one right before bed and change in the morning. I can't sleep when I'm wearing a pad so had no choice. Having pads after I gave birth was horrible =[

MrsBlondie · 07/09/2018 22:43

i always used to for years. Cant use tampons now but luckily have light flow these days.

teacherspets · 08/09/2018 05:19

Pads are gross. Never occurred to me to not wear tampons overnight.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 08/09/2018 05:49

I always wear one overnight. Have very heavy periods so tend to wear a super plus extra and a pad day and night
