Is it Chicken Pox and how long will he be infectious?

DS1 has been complaining for 3 days now that his nappy area was sore. We saw 2 tiny spots and thought it was a bit of a heat rash so simply put some cream on the spots. He has not been showing any signs of illness but has been a little more quiet than usual. When putting him to bed tonight I discovered similar spots on his neck and torso.
He seems to have itched the heads off of some of them (maybe has 8 spots total).
Is this Chicken Pox and how long before DS2 gets it? How long will DS be contagious? My best friend is pregnant and we were with her today!

Could be, they will turn into shiny creamish coloured blisters and spread if it is.
You are usually contagious about two weeks before the spots come, ds2 will probably get it in the next 2 weeksish.
If your friend has already had chicken pox she should be fine, although there's always one!

If it is chicken pox then it is infectious until all the spots have scbbed over.

You are contagious from the day before the spots come out until 5 days afterwards.

Sorry, I thought it was longer before.

Thanks guys.
My friend has had the Chicken Pox so should be ok. I have warned her anyway to keep an eye on her lo.
Will wait and see what DS looks like in the morning. Expecting him to be covered head to toe!
I'm really surprised at how small the spots are.

Your ds2 will get it in 2-3 weeks if he's going to. If your best friend has had it then she'll be fine. Also, it's only a problem in the first 12 weeks and just before delivery (as the baby can get it), otherwise not a problem.

Is it dangerous for newborns to get it? We have also been around a 4 week old baby.

Your friend should be fine. My ds got chicken pox when I was carrying dd, so I couldn't avoid prolonged exposure. I had had chicken pox and gp told me there was nothing to worry about.

Thanks somersetmum. You are all great!

Lots more spots this morning. Very small but some are blistering.
Got confirmation from the Dr today. Other than a slight fever and the spots, DS is in great form
