Yup - fabulous! Dh does it now too as sick of waking up and feeling like 80yrs old!

pregnabrain · 06/06/2007 18:27

It's blimming great, isn't it.

Completely cured my post-baby slouch and has even helped with the pot belly. I feel SO good after a pilates class.

dinny · 06/06/2007 18:29

felt so emotional today after it as I KNEW it was doing the crucial muscles! thought I was a lost cause!

can you give me an idea of a cpl of best exercises I can do every night?

was a mad ashtanga yoga fan but now realise it had ben bypassing my core muscles totally as had been over-compensating with other muscles.

I've been wanting to do it for ages, how do you go find a good pilates class, is there a website?

dinny · 06/06/2007 18:43

not sure - there are classes at my local (council) gym

suzycreamcheese · 06/06/2007 19:01

cant find local class have been thinking aobut this too..anyone know a dvd or something or is that no good?

dinny · 06/06/2007 19:05

I did use to do this one yogalates.com.au/home/productsdvdsmore/products.html, found it pretty good, but the class I went to today is AMAZING, as the corrections she does make all the difference.

I'd be too lazy for dvds... I need to go to a class (peer pressure)

dinny · 06/06/2007 19:37

morningpaper · 06/06/2007 20:33

I have emailed a local teacher

am going to give it a go

I feel like all my muscle tone has disappeared over the last few years

dinny · 06/06/2007 21:10

honestly, felt my core muscles for the first time properly since havng (very large!) ds.

really going to stick with it and hope to look like a flaboard-tum-type person by summer. or even just a bit tighter - HATE my bulge, it's so ageing.

well done, MP - the woman who does the class at my gym does a lot of private sessions that I am sorely tempted to go for....

she said to me aftre the lesson today that it really doesn't take long for the core muscles to strengthen and just to do a little of what we'd done in class every day.

My goodness, you wouldn't believe how different the bridge feels doing it with her than in my ashtanga class - amazing.

morningpaper · 06/06/2007 21:14

agree, bulge IS very ageing

dinny · 06/06/2007 21:16

Can definitely recommend just a couple of 1-2-1 sessions to get all the basics right. I was lucky to be referred to a physio who also taught pilates, and went to her for 12 sessions, and then paid for another few - it was my vice
Have just started back properly for hte first time in years, and just feel SO happy !

Anchovy · 06/06/2007 21:50

I'm another huge fan. Have had 2 large babies - started Pilates after the second one and actually have better abs than before I was ever pregnant (not hard!)

dinny · 06/06/2007 22:18

oooh, may book a few private lessons, though she really took time to set me in correct positions

it really made me happy too - weird! it's lie your body working how it's designed to!

Anchovy - how long did it take to notice a difference ad did you cardio work too?

Anchovy · 07/06/2007 16:13

Yes, I do a bit of running and see a personal trainer as well and i think it is good to combine - pilates alone will not make you fit.

I think 4-6 months of Pilates will have a real impact.

I tend to do Dvds at home now, but have done 2 courses to make sure I am largely doing the right thing.
