Cramp waking me up since 4am

I've been up and down with cramp in the calf of one of my legs, it's agony.

I jump out of bed and try to ease it walking, or hobbling around, it eases, I get back into bed, nod off and it's back after 20 minutes or so.

This has happened occasionally before but it's not a regular thing.

Is there anything I can do

Ow, poor you!

Eat bananas and something salty. Recurrent cramps can be an indication that you lack potassium and/or salt.

Thanks PrettyCandles, should I eat them before bed or while I'm hobbling around

Seriously though the last thing I ate last night was a handful of salty cashew nuts
so it may be the potassium.

LOL. I think that cramps tend to come in groups - once you've had a cramp the muscle doesn't seem to relax fully and makes you more likely to have another soon after. Do you go back to sleep as soon as it's eased, or do you try to continue stretching the muscle and massage it for a while before getting back into bed? If you can bear to do some calf stretches against the wall for several minutes that might help. Also I find that running a massager up the calf muscle more effective than using my hands. Balls-on-a-stick-type massager.

lol. It is far to early in the morning to read a phrase like "balls on a stick massager"

I did try to go straight back to sleep so it's worth giving your suggestions a go. My calf is still aching a bit so I'm stretching my calf now, sort of standing on tip-toe while I'm sitting at the pc.

I have several balls-on-a-stick massagers, they generally look like a very bad joke at any hour of the day!

A bit late to tell you this, but standing on tiptoe doesn't stretch the calf. You need to push your heel away from you and pull your toes towards you, ie flex the foot.

Hope tonight's better.
