I have a throbbing pain and it's getting worse.

gall bladder? Have you eaten something fatty? Alchohol?

oh that's right rib.

intercostal muscles (between the ribs)? have you strained yourself?

yes i am an occasional smoker. It's quite low down,underneath not behind the rib and I just belched so wondered if it could be bowel? It's lessened too so maybe just good old fashioned indigestion?

Trapped wind? I get this from time to time, thought I was having a pulmonary embolism first time. Turns out to be wind.
