Sprained wrist

Hi - I fell backwards two days ago and landed with all my weight on my left wrist (was not drunk!). Anyway, it's now bruised black from the top of my thumb, all along the fleshy bit at the side of my hand, to about three inches up on the inside of my wrist. The swelling has gone down but it still hurts. I can't put any weight on it, not even to hold a cup of tea or a book. can't do things like open the marmite etc. I've had some ice packs on it and have starpped it up with a bandage. Is there anything else I should be doing please?

It huuuuuuuuuuuuuurts!!!!

You need to get it x-rayed. It could be fractured..... Sorry to be doom & gloom.

Arghh - that is NOT what I wanted to hear! The thing is I CAN move it, eg: am typing this without any trouble, but it hurts if I try and do much with it. I suspect it would hurt much more if it was fractured and that I'm being a wuss! It's definitely the worst bruise I've ever had - have been very lucky!

press all over the boney areas if its fractured you'll know!

Thanks everyone. It's a lot better today - the swelling has just about gone and the bruises have turned yellow. I can take a little weight on it too, so I think it was just a nasty sprain.

Thanks again.
