Asthma Question

DD is 3 and we think she has asthma. She was prescribed Ventolin syrup for a cough that she keeps getting but it has now run out and the cough has returned.

She is also sounding really wheezy today, there is a definate rattle on her chest and no amount of coughing seems to be removing it. She is fine in herself though, happy and loud as usual . Do you think it would be worht getting her checked out by the out of hours doctor, or would it be better to wait until Monday and hope I can get her an appointment?

Many thanks

if a child is wheezing, always take them to se seen ASAp. never leave it.

last time ds had a chest infection his only symptom was wheezing. I was when they told me he was going to be hospitalised. He had 3 helpings for breakfast and was really hyper (a side effect of salbutamol I now know) so get her checked.

Thanks for your advice. Again, this is another new experience for me so I'm glad I asked now (although I did feel a bit silly). They haven't given her a proper diagnosis but they seem to think it is asthma. I have phoned the out of hours GP for some advice, so thanks again.

No prob. ds had an allergic reaction at 9 months and was swelling up and wheezing, so I (a first aid trainer for 10 years) popped next door to see what she would do because I wasn't sure My neighbour was like 'hospital, now', but I felt I had to ask her advice 1st!
