Worried about skin cancer

Hello,
My mum has recently been told she has BCC and I now appear to have the same sort of thing on my face too.
It’s hard to remember but I’m sure a few months ago I noticed a new freckle near my eye. I forgot about it but yesterday I noticed the same area it’s gone but now there’s a small white patch of skin there. It’s hard and although small, I can’t stop looking at it! Is it even possible for a freckle to change in this way?
Should I see the GP or keep an eye on it to see if it goes away?

If in doubt always get it checked out. BCC is more common in older people who have had many years of sun exposure but I'm sure your GP would be happy to look at it for you. Might be worth taking a photo of it now and watching to see if it changes or grows over next few weeks.

Not all lesions like this are BCC - you can also get benign ones such as actinic keratosis. As well as ordinary spots, blemishes and scars, obviously.

Do get checked if you are concerned, but don’t worry unduly - even if it is BCC it is, in my experience, really not that big a deal.
