Testicle question

Right, neurotic mother alert.....DS (9 months) had a twisted testicle (testicular torsion) when he was 9 weeks old. It was untwisted and stitched into position to prevent it happening again (and so was the other testicle). He had a check up a couple of months later and the doc was happy that it looked OK, but said that we will only know if it is fully functioning when he hits puberty.

Sooooo, I'm probably a bit obsessed with his testicles(!), and have noticed that when I change his nappy they are often in the 'cold position' iykwim...i.e. shrivelled up high. They only seem to be fully dangly and low when he's had a bath. Is this normal?

Do your DS's balls shrivel up a lot? Obviously I know that balls do shrink up high, but I'm just a bit concerned about the frequency. And when they have shrunk up, the scrotum seems virtually empty!

fyi ds1 had a torsion at aged about 8 (I think) he's 32 now and er functioning normally (from what I gather )

Don't know about the torsion business, but certainly have experienced the up-and-down testicles (with ds1 and ds2, obviously). Ds1 seemed to have a finely-honed preservation instinct, as his used to whip up into invisiblity with virtually every nappy change (and he would pee as soon as you opened his nappy, too). If they were out then they disappeared as soon as you touched them. A warm bath soon enouraged them out again. Ds2 OTOH seems quite laid-bakc: his testicles only occasionally disappear (and he rarely pees when you open his nappy). The scrotum does look shrivelled and empty when they're up, and full and dangly when they're down. So your ds sounds perfectly normal to me.
