My DM was taken to hospital the other evening. She felt very weak and faint, was sick and felt her right eye was droopy. When the ambulance got to her her BP was 204/102. When she got to the hospital it was 199/99. After two hours it was 181/89.
CT scan and ECG were normal. She also had a water infection diagnosed in A&E.
The A&E doctor told her it was more than likely due to her mental health issues and there was nothing physically wrong with her. To go to GP re blood pressure but she was fine. He said her thyroid was also fine. She is on medication for low thyroid function which is newly diagnosed.
Yesterday she felt the same and 111 called an ambulance for her again. BP very high again. They monitored and told her it was mental health and to go back to her GP.
She’s been to see her GP today and her BP is again sky high. She’s also vomiting again. GP said A&E didn’t test her thyroid function at all.
My question is, can mental health issues affect your BP like this?
Her MH is quite stable atm and she isn’t feeling anxious.
