Health anxiety about blood test results, could use reassurance

I don't normally have health anxiety but I am finding myself anxious now. I recentlyhad a routine blood test to check my thyroid levels. It was requested by the GP, not something I asked for because of symptoms.

The surgery called and asked me to make a telephone appointment which I've done for next week. It's probably about my thyroid, right? I find myself worrying that it will have to do with my cholesterol or that they are going to tell me I have diabetes. If it was diabetes, would they have me come in, rather than tell me over the phone?

Has anyone else had a request for a phone appointment after blood work?

Yes and it was a 'we are not sure', take another test in a month. But Dr was very reassuring over the phone and chatted for quite a while.

I had blood tests done and was once contacted by the receptionist to arrange a phone conversation with the GP at his request. Like you, I was quite worried about it. As it was, he wanted to talk because my thyroid antibodies had come back quite elevated, but as the rest was normal, he felt that it just needed to be kept an eye on and wanted me to come back 3 months later.

I think it's quite normal to arrange telephone appointment when they want to discuss something that has come back borderline and needs watching but not concerning enough to justify a face to face appointment.

Ring back and ask for the results

I thought I’d update people since I appreciated the reassurances at the time. It had to do with my thyroid, nothing too serious. Thank goodness!
