Hard lump on my hand. Size of a Revel.

Its been there since march. I noticed it when I was in hospital with my dd. Thats got nothing to do with it but just helped me remember when I first noticed it.

Its round and hard. Just a bit forward from my wrist. On the hand not the arm iyswim.
Its not painfull but hurts if it gets bumped.
Its not changed shape or size.
When I put my hand in certain positions you can't see it and other times its easy to see . Well if I point it out.

I know people get ganglions(sp) but I thought they were further up the hand/wrist. My friend had one.
Do you think it could just be a bone or funny tissue or could it be something else?
I'm just thinking about that lump Jordan had on her finger and it turned out to be a dodgy lump.
TIA

Obviously if you're at all concerned, it's best to get it checked out.
But it does sound like the ganglion I had. The doctor said that it was best ignored and that some people could get rid of them by bashing them with a book or similar weighty object, but then you ran the risk of breaking bones. given the options, I chose to keep it.

princessmel · 29/05/2007 21:42

Is it still there? Does it hurt?

Which flavour?

sorry about your hand, but PMSL at the title

WelshBoris · 29/05/2007 21:46

Not a malteaser then?

TricityBendix · 29/05/2007 21:46

Well there's still a lump and it was about 15 years ago that I asked the doctor. I recall the same pain you mention, if it gets bumped, or sometimes if it was just at a funny angle, but absolutely doesn't hurt now, and I don't think it has done for years. Sorry, the book advice probably didn't help

TricityBendix · 29/05/2007 21:48

Though if someone can tell me what a ganglion is, I'll point it out to DS for the sheer yuck factor. He'll enjoy that. He loves the cyst in DH's arm. (cream egg size)

FrannyandZooey · 29/05/2007 21:48

Coffee, or raisin? There's a big difference you know

WelshBoris · 29/05/2007 21:49

Hope its not orange

FrannyandZooey · 29/05/2007 21:49

My mum did have a ganglion on her foot and she had it removed. It was more like a Terrys Chocolate Orange, though

Piffle · 29/05/2007 21:50

tis a ganglion I have one that comes and goes, currently Malteser size due to lugging 15lb new baby around most of the days...
Sits right on the base of my hand before my wrist.
bulges if you bend your wrist down kinda thing

Dottydot · 29/05/2007 21:50

WB - orange is my favourite!

luciemule · 29/05/2007 21:50

Definitely sounds like a ganglion - mu sister's got one in exactly the same place and sounds like you describe (hurts at certain angle etc). Not sure what you do about it. It's just a lump of fibrous tissue I think isn't it or gristle.

princessmel · 29/05/2007 21:50

I was going to type malteser (cos I prefer them) but after I looked at it again decided on a revel. For accuracy!

toffee or the fake malteser are best.

Could it be a sebaceous cyst? Dp had one on his arm - it's like a lump of fat under the skin so you can wobble it about a bit

WelshBoris · 29/05/2007 21:51

If my Nana was on here she'd have to say

"well mine was the size of a medium Easter Egg"

She just cant help herself

WelshBoris · 29/05/2007 21:51

You have issues Dottydot, there is therapy available.

FrannyandZooey · 29/05/2007 21:52

Oh too large for cyst maybe then - dp's was like the old now defunct peanut sort

princessmel · 29/05/2007 21:52

Yes piffle if I bend my hand down you can see it better.

Why would I have got one??

Orange

coffee

DH and SIL both had ganglions - sounds like that.

SIL had hers removed at the doctor.

DH got BIL to hit his with a big book. Much to my surprise, it worked.

Dottydot · 29/05/2007 21:53

ooh it used to be such a treat getting the orange ones - desperately hoping it wouldn't be coffee and then being really pleased if it was orange! Nowadays I'm all gluten-free so I think Revels are out...

Dottydot · 29/05/2007 21:54

Yes, I remember being taught about ganglions at some point at school - GPs used to hit them with bibles...

princessmel · 29/05/2007 21:55

Yuk about the wobble. No def no wobble factor. Just hard and round. Dh wont touch it. He goes all shivery. I take his hand and make him feel it without him noticing what I'm doing.!!
He was the same about touching the lumps in my boobs when dd was first born and I got all those hard lumps in the milk ducts.

hi, i've got one too, which sounds like its in exactly the same place as yours. i had just resigned myself to the fact its a ganglion. there isn't any pain.

its definately peanut

TricityBendix · 29/05/2007 21:56

Mine's turned into a minstrel I think.

princessmel · 29/05/2007 21:57
