Should ds ear still be red 4 weeks after ear infection?

DS1 had a bad ear infection at the beginning of May where his eardrum burst as loads of yucky stuff came out. It took 2 lots of antibiotics to clear it up. I've just picked some of the crusty stuff that was stuck just inside his ear (I was VERY careful) and noticed his ear still is very red. Is this normal or should I take him to the doctors to get it checked out?

Also I think he's a bit deaf after the last ear infection so yeah I will make an appointment tomorrow for him. Prehaps a touch of glue ear or something?

Also, how do I get rid of the crusty stuff in his ear? I have carefully picked off the bits around the edges but there's big lumps of crusty brown stuff right inside his ear and I don't want to stick anything down it. Or should I leave well alone and it's clean itself?

He's fine in himself now. Just worried mum as per usual! We will see about getting his ears checked in about a month because we are moving to New Zealand in 3 weeks.
