Extra digits anyone?

DS2, 3 weeks old, has an extra digit on the little finger of each hand. We have been given a referral to an orthopedic clinic (in September! can't believe it is such a long wait). As far as I know the way they are treated is to put a suture round so that the blood supply is cut off and they drop. Has anyone had experience of this? If you look at the photo on my profile page you can see what they look like.

Have a friend whose sons had this, all went fine no evidence of them later on......

My mum had an extra finger and they did just stop the blood, also my uncle had an extra finger and toe and his son had the same. Same thing happened with them, stop the blood then cut the flesh off.

Interesting. It does seem to run in families. My brother had one extra finger and my dp's uncle had one too (maybe that combination explains why ds has two extras, is that makes any sense!). Looked it up on google and it is about a 2/1000 occurance.
