Think ds will have to be done as his foreskin is very tight and he has an infection at the moment. Just wonder if anyone has any experience of this.

TIA

yes my ds had this problem from birth, and the doctor always told us it would cause him problems as he got older.

He had the operation when he was about 4, and was in hospital overnight, he was sore for a few weeks, but not too bad.

I know of older boys who had it done (age 12ish) and were very sore.

I think from talking to other parents when we were deciding to have the operation on my ds, most agreeded that the problem didn't sort itself out, and needed medical intervention.

It is probably embarassing for your ds now to discuss this with you, but will be a hell of a lot more embarassing in a few years, so I would get a medical opinion on it if I were you.

Some parents did tell me they should have waited until their son was 16 or 17, as he'd have been too sore to have sex for months! but I think they were joking!!

2 of my 3 have had it done (very tight foreskin + infections) they had op aged 4 & 5. I think ouynger is better than older, so wouldn't wory about him being 'only' 8.
Bother of mine were done as day cases, and allowed home once they'd recovered from ga & had eaten, drun & done a wee.

1 option if you want to try, there is a hormonal crea, which can with lots of manipulation, make foreskin stretch. Not an option in my dss cases, as they'd had so many infection there was scar tissue under foreskin, so not visible to naked eye.

ds3 also looks set to have it done as also has extremely tight foreskin. Got appt in 2 weeks with same surgeon that did ds2. It's not fun, but it's not that big a deal either.

Main thing my ds remembers about his op is all the pressies he got, from hospital (just a paper plane, bless, sweeties from gp etc)

Ds had his circumcision last yr when he was 3,had a tight foreskin and the surgeon thought it was best to do the op.Went ok,although ds freaked out at the redness of it and refused to wear pants for about 2 weeks-because in his words..."it tingled too much",baggy cotton shorts are a must! Often wonder if he wil get any hassle at school as he gets older-changing rooms etc as so few boys have it done now, fingers crossed he'll cope.

My son was circumcised at 18 months and is now almost 13. He had loads of infections from a few weeks old and I was distraught. I know nowadays things are usually left to see if manipulation of the foreskin and creams do the job, but as my hubby was circumcised at the age of 14 I knew it was probably in the genes so to speak and my hubby remembers the pain he was in for so long before and after; that we decided best get it done early. Now my DS2 is almost 2 and has no problems I know what I went through with DS1 and do not regret it for a moment..he has never had any comments at school from the changing rooms and has never been shy about it either....all in all we are all happy he was circumcised.
