Recalled frozen sweetcorn - what do you do if you've already eaten some.

We appear to have some of the listeria risk frozen sweetcorn. Unfortunately we've eaten some over the last few days. The kids had theirs cooked so they should be fine. DH and I had some uncooked in a pasta salad 2 days ago. Apparently uncooked is not good .Envy
Luckily it wasn't much - just a handful chucked in the salad between the 2 of us. We are both generally fit and healthy so I know not in a risk catagory.
Google tells me it can take between 3 and 70 Shock days for symptoms to show though. That's a long time to wait to know for sure.
Do any medical types know if there's anything we can do other than wait and see and just really hope we don't get sick on our much looked forward to summer holiday.

3-70 days?? Wow. I’d have thought 48 hrs later.

Honestly I don’t know, I’m pretty scared by it too. We’ve had some yesterday. It was boiled, but I’m still not convinced. You don’t expect frozen veg to have listeria.

Bi11yOneMate · 06/07/2018 21:43

Me too. I'm going to start taking probiotics although I'm not sure it will do anything.
If it's any help it seems to only really be a concern if you are frail or immuno compromised. After all, all the "thou shalt not eat..." Rules in pregnancy are due to listeria risk, but not a problem for most people.

reallyanotherone · 06/07/2018 21:43

Are you pregnant?

If not, symptoms are likely to be nothing more than mild gastro upset. Can usually be self managed, unless you have other medical issues.

The nhs website has some pretty clear advice. www.nhs.uk/conditions/listeriosis/

WindyWednesday · 06/07/2018 21:45

I don’t know. I know someone very ill after catching listeria. Really bad.

Lindy2 · 06/07/2018 21:45

I know! I couldn't believe upto 70 days. Apparently the average is about 30!
Like you I thought symptoms would show much quicker as as it was 2 days ago we ate it we should be fine. I'm not sure Googling was a good idea. Confused
I haven't told DH yet. He's a hypercondriac at the best of times and I don't need him telling me he thinks he has listeria for the next 2+ months.

It's also been a problem since 2015.
I think a horrible gastroflu thing I had last year may well have been listeria in hind sight. Noone else in the family got ill, but noone else eats raw sweet corn in salad.... It took me 4 weeks to get properly better.

Lindy2 · 06/07/2018 21:49

Not pregnant and not trying. It must be horribly worrying for those that are though.
I may do probiotics too just so I feel that I'm doing something. It will all have been digested by now though so I'm not sure if it will help at all

Bi11y that sounds awful.
I very very rarely use it uncooked. It's just because it's so hot right now I thought it would make a nice change to have a cold pasta for dinner. Putting the sweetcorn in was a last moment add to make the salad even colder. Never again. Sad

I was extremely run down though - no sleep due to toddler, and was having a fairly full on anorexia relapse. So probably came under the vulnerable group.

I have eaten the last two days the Sainsbury’s mix frozen vegetables, because my DH wanted to clean the freezer. I am pregnant and I am getting very anxious about it. I steamed them for a couple of minutes but now feel regret I did not leave them longer. My DS who is 6 also ate some of them ☹️

Hissy · 08/07/2018 22:29

We had a pack - at least one in the period Waitrose flagged up and I know me, the oh and my ds DID go through a period of funny tummies.

We’ve finished the pack now, I’m going To call Waitrose and see what they have to say anyway

BigGreenOlives · 08/07/2018 22:34

I do most of our food shopping on line, I’ve received 15 emails from Ocado saying we’d be refunded and to throw any uneaten sweet corn away. We haven’t had any health issues but we do not have any pre-existing conditions. I’ve thrown away what remained of the only bag in the freezer.

SinkGirl · 08/07/2018 22:34

We had a pack - my twins last had some a few days ago, then I read the list of recalled products the next day and panicked.

One of my boys has medical conditions that mean it could be very serious for him. I have a GP friend and chatted to her about it - she said there’s nothing I can do now but if either of them vomit I should get them seen right away and explain about the possible exposure. Really scary.

SinkGirl · 08/07/2018 22:35

Oh and I haven’t received a single email from Waitrose. Thank god for Facebook.

missmouse101 · 08/07/2018 22:35

Have yakult every day?

doodlejump1980 · 08/07/2018 22:38

Is it just frozen sweetcorn that’s been affected?

Bi11yOneMate · 08/07/2018 22:45

I've had ocado emails as well. But not Sainsbury's, even though I've had online deliveries of their affected mixed veg. Eaten that as well!

GinLimeandLemonade · 08/07/2018 22:50

Some frozen veg too doodlejump1980

Hissy · 08/07/2018 22:58

My email was from ocado tbh

VABB · 12/07/2018 15:57

Couldn’t believe it when I seen the recall. I am 9months pregnant and I used the Aldi sweet corn in a veggie burger days before the recall 😩 praying it was cooked properly. Thought I was safe having this- stopped goats cheese burgers etc incase of listeria, typical.

Feeling bit nervous now as can show no symptoms or all the ones that do are pretty typical during pregnancy/from sick bugs that son always catches.
Does anybody know if they can diagnose it/treat before symptoms? Scary it can pass to baby so would be nice to know for sure.

WindyWednesday · 12/07/2018 16:11

I buy online from ocado. Waitrose and Sainsburys and haven’t had any emails from them. It’s shocking how they are handling this.

BigGreenOlives · 19/07/2018 14:40

I have been credited with the cost of 4 bags but thats all.
