It started about 2 weeks ago. My DD (age 1) woke up from her afternoon nap feeling miserable. 2 Days later she had a fever of 39.4. Took her to out of hours doctor, he said it is her ears. Next day she was screaming so I took her to our doctor and he said it is a viral infection.
She was very poorly. Didn't eat or drink. She developed a hiddious rash on her body and on her face. Took her back to out of hours doc and they said it is a viral infection. I insisted on seeing a pediatrition and they said it were tonsilitis.
She got beter and was herself for 3 days. Yesterday she woke up with a rash (different as before) all over her arms and legs. Now, I must say that she played on the grass the night before. It's been 2 days now and the rash is still there. Can it be the grass or something else? She also developed a blocked nose today. She played on grass before and nothing happened.

Don't want to take her back to doc's. and seem like a paranoid mum!

any advice?

If it was me I would take her back to the Dr's. I wouldn't care if they thought I was paranoid!

Do you think it can be the grass or something else?

it could be the grass you know

I have a grass pollen allergy and it's started up in the last couple of days.

Is she still on the antibiotics?

If not, if you have a bottle of piriton, you could try her with a spoon of that to see if it gets rid of the rash. If it isn't annoying her though, it might just be worth keeping her off the grass and seeing what happens.

And DON'T worry about being paranoid. You cannot legislate when your child gets ill! You may find they get sick 6 times in 2 months and then not again for ages!

foxinsocks · 26/05/2007 15:58

take her on Tuesday if it's still there

tasja · 26/05/2007 16:02

No she is off the antibiotics. Where can I get piriton? Sorry, I'm from SA. Don't know all the medicines here.
Thanks for your help. Will see how she looks on Tuesday.

you can get it from the pharmacist in the chemist

in fact, take her to the chemist - ask to see the pharmacist and see what they say. They can be quite good with rashes!

Is she well in herself otherwise?

tasja · 26/05/2007 16:08

Yes, she is well in herself. she plays on her own. Just struggling to eat since the tonsilitis episode.
Just got the blocked nose, but not to bad.

it could be nothing to do with the grass - could be another viral thing.

Is her throat still sore then?

given what she's been through, I would def take her to the docs on Tuesday if it is still there - they won't think you are wasting their time.

tasja · 26/05/2007 16:13

Thanks fox. No, her throut isn't sore anymore. It's just the awfull red rash on her arms and legs and the blocked nose. And a bit diaroeha (spelled right??)

oh poor thing. I hope she isn't coming down with something else. Make sure she keeps drinking if her tummy is poorly.

foxinsocks · 26/05/2007 16:16

is the rash rough?

tasja · 26/05/2007 16:17

Will do. Quit stressful. I hate it. First time that she got sick.

OP posts:
tasja · 26/05/2007 16:17

Yes it's rough, ugly red bumps

take her to see the chemist today if you can - if he/she says you should see a doctor, then I'd follow their advice.

tasja · 26/05/2007 16:25

thanks for your help and advice
