DS (3) complaining his willy hurts - any ideas what it could be?

DS2 has got up at 5.30am saying that his willy hurts. He also says that it hurts when he does a wee. Had a look on NHS direct website but can't find anything that relates to this in children. Will ring NHS direct in a mo, as it sounds like a UTI....anyone got any experience of this in young boys?

is it red at the end?
ballinitis......

Mumbojumbo · 26/05/2007 06:41

Just had a peek and it doesn't appear to be. Mind you ds2 just said "Mummy, it's all better now!" . I wonder if it was a tactic to get me out of bed at 5.30am? Will see if he complains again later this morning. Will ring NHS direct anyway.....

mine have had this a lot. not uti ime but as popsycal says, ballinitis. Mine were treated with anti- bac cream and it's was fine v. quick. ds2 did have many recurring bouts and ended up with circumcision. may be worth consulting doc just to have it on record and get the best, poss PO cream, and agreeing a plan for if it happens again. eg with ds2 for recurring infections I just treated at home but phoned to get it added to his notes as they were then considering op but wanted to know how frequent the infections reoccured.

but it's not so bad. hope he's feeling better soon.

ballinitis, I bet
v common, he might need anti biotics

Nemo2007 · 26/05/2007 07:36

Might be the infection in the foreskin thing[ballinitis]. DS complained his was hurting for a couple of days then all of a sudden it completely swelled up on his 3rd bday and was leaking pus. We had to go to A+E and swab was taken and he was given a weeks worth of antibiotics. Touch wood so far there has been no reoccurance.

When my son had ballinitis we were prescribed antibiotic eye ointment and it worked like magic!

Thanks for the replies everyone and the link to the other thread - very useful. Will ring the docs and try and get an appointment (why does it always happen over a bank holiday weekend?!)
