teething with mouth ulcers

Hi
DS (18mths) is getting his canines, and in a bit of pain, but I also noticed he had three little ulcers on his tongue this evening. Assuming it's not a reoccurance of hand, foot & mouth disease (we which had in April), is this a common thing when teething?
Cheers for any observations.

Mine didn't get them, bumping for you.

I also thought of hand foot and mouth. Also chicken pox can have spots in the mouth like this but he would have other symptoms of chicken pox as well.

Could he have burnt his tongue on hot food? Or have you changed his toothpaste recently? I get mouth ulcers from certain toothpastes.

It's definitely hand food & mouth. He has a gob full of horrible ulcers, and a few little red spots on his hands & feet. It is the mouth which is really bothering him. He has only had a couple of beakers of liquid today & yesterday, and a bowl of ice-cream yesterday, and one topped with ibuprofen sauce this morning (cunning plan, as he was refusing the oral syringe!!).

It is horrible to see him in so much discomfort and he is getting weaker and more tired each day that he goes without proper food & drink. I can only hope that the ulcers start to clear in the next day or two.

Have been looking on-line and apparently it is possible to have H,F & M more than once as there is a range of viruses that cause it.

It's no fun being a sick toddler
