Unable to walk suddenly

TROUBLEDMAM · 03/07/2018 02:16

So on Thursday I suddenly became unable to walk
I could feel my back hurt n giving out n my legs trembling
Ive suffered with sciatica before n thought it was the beginning of an episode
Until Friday when I realised I couldn't walk at all
I called my gp out n she said it was sciatica n a pulled muscle
Give me strong drugs n left
Come Saturday night the drugs weren't masking the pain n I was sure they was something more wrong
I rang 111 who phoned an ambulance
They wouldn't take me to hospital said ring my doctor today
I did this n she said she would call back after speaking to another doctor but never did

I'm in absolute agony I'm pissing in a bucket
I've had muscle relaxers called lorazepam
Codeine phosphate paracetamol every four hours since Friday n I'm still in agony

Any one know wat I can do next?

So tomorrow is a day full of tests etc
I'll keep you guys informed
Thanks for the advice n support
Most of you have been really lovely n kind x

Good luck @TROUBLEDMAM hope it's an easy fix and you're on the mend soon.

swingofthings · 04/07/2018 07:05

I got up and hoped with all my heart you'd made it to hospital. So relieved that you have.

I'm sorry if we've been harsh here, I can understand that it was mainly your fear of the outcome that stopped you from going and finding excuses to delay it.

I hope all is going to well for you, but do remember in the future that waiting and hoping something is going to get better on its own rarely alleviate the anxiety. If you go and all is fine, the anxiety is relieved sooner, and if indeed you need treatment, then you know that you did the right thing by going.

pandamodium · 04/07/2018 07:33

Hope you get some answers.

LanguidLobster · 04/07/2018 11:05

TROUBLEDMAM · 04/07/2018 22:55

LanguidLobster · 04/07/2018 23:48

Where are these drugs??

Really hope they find out what is going wrong and then you get some help

Ollivander84 · 04/07/2018 23:54

I have to say before my spinal op I cried because I'm scared of GA
They trotted off to check my notes and came back to say they would use the same drugs as my last one. I had midazolam and a shit load of anti sickness drugs

The midazolam made me laugh like I was drunk Blush and the anti sickness worked so well I had two servings of both courses (tea time food) about an hour after the op
The triage nurse who shoved a syringe of oramorph in my mouth in a&e was also one of my favourite people. I skipped the wait because she said I looked grey with the pain

clairethewitch70 · 05/07/2018 10:37

You are in the best place OP. I am no doctor but wondering if they are considering guillian barre syndrome?

2old2beamum · 05/07/2018 11:19

clairethewitch snap, it had crossed my mind, DD has had it twice and was unable to walk.

esk1mo · 05/07/2018 12:46

ollivander i done the same after my op. everyone said how sick and terrible i’d feel but i had 3 slices of cake and a banana, i felt amazing!

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 05/07/2018 18:59

hi op

how are you doing today?

notapizzaeater · 07/07/2018 11:55

Hope you doing ok

TROUBLEDMAM · 09/07/2018 01:58

Hi guys
Sorry for a late reply I've been in agony
I got out of hospital on Thursday
I was told to take a shed load of meds rest but keep moving hourly
They didn't do any X-rays or mri or ct scans in the end
I did however have physio
They told me they couldn't give everyone a scan that came in with back pain or they would be scanning forever
They didn't say what was wrong with me

So I was I. Hospital for two nights

Now I'm home and taking lots of meds
I really don't feel like I'm making progress
I'm in agony still I'm barely walking can stand for no longer than five minutes without my legs giving up on me
I'm so worried and feel like I don't know what to do next
They said my gp should refer me for a scan
So I will ring to get this tomorrow but I don't think this will be fast

Doctor in hospital said in three weeks 99.9% will be ok and if not then they would maybe scan me but I'm currently not showing symptoms of anything that suggests me needing a scan now

I'm so depressed about all this
So much pressure on my partner
I hate it and the pain is unreal

Any help would be appreciated x

@GardenGeek - What are you thinking would be achieved by going back to A&E and refusing to leave?

HyacinthsBucket70 · 09/07/2018 19:45

Can you afford to get a private referral and see someone quicker?

Losing the use of your legs isn't something I'd take a chance with.

I recently had costochondritis (rib inflammation) and it took 5 days of being in/out hospital, admissions to assessement and multiple ECGs/tests to get a diagnosis. It was only because our GP really pushed for us that we got anywhere. Once they'd ruled out it wasn't a heart attack, they lost interest and discharged me with painkillers. I was in so much pain, I couldn't walk more than a few steps without nearly collapsing. It was utterly terrifying.

I hope you're soon on the mend, but I'd really push to get somewhere with your GP at the very least.

Caribbeanyesplease · 09/07/2018 19:46

What mess have you been given?

Caribbeanyesplease · 09/07/2018 19:47

Meds

smellycoat · 09/07/2018 20:10

My Dad had sudden unable to walk once. He got hospital. After 2 weeks he walked out undiagnosed. Then, 20 years later, he got it again -it was slow MS. He lived with joy, another 30 years, because it was the slow type.
