BBQ food poisoning? TMI

tracymartel · 30/06/2018 00:20

Anyone up? I have just got home from a barbecue at a friends house. I started experience horrible griping stomach pains driving home and had to rush for the loo when I got in... tmi but I have pretty awful diarrhoea. I haven't been sick but I feel very sick and keep burping.

Am I going to spend all night hurling up the pork skewers I ate earlier? Have a v long and active day tomorrow gah.

What things did you eat? How soon before you felt sick?

KTyoupigeon · 30/06/2018 00:29

Good luck - keep your fluid intake as high as you can. If you have food poisoning then I doubt you will be going anywhere tomorrow Sad

MyDcAreMarvel · 30/06/2018 00:29

Do you feel very hot when sick? Burping is usually a bug not fp.

tracymartel · 30/06/2018 00:31

Pork skewers, a burger and some salad... not looking good either way is it Envy(not envy)

I started feel ill about 3 hours after I finished eating. Don't feel particularly hot

Oh dear. If it is food poisoning it's likely to last for a good few hours or even a couple of days. Make sure you stay hydrated. I hope you feel better soon.

Any rash or fever?

Strictly, food poisoning is a notifiable disease and should be reported to the council. I don't suppose this happens often unless sufferers are seen by a doctor. It would be useful to find out whether anyone else has suffered the same effects. If it's just your barbecue host being careless it's unlikely to have any consequences, but the council would need to know if there's a problem with a meat supplier.

I have had the shits this week. For me i don't think that it was good but heat related.

Left work at lunchtime Wednesday. And this morn had a cup of tea and was set off again.

I hope it isn't too bad for you OP.

MyDcAreMarvel · 30/06/2018 00:36

It sounds more like a bug op which is usually less horrific than food poisoning. Food poisoning usually leaves you burning up as you vomit and severe runs both at the same time. In between I was rolling on the floor clutching the side of the bath.
A bug unless noro won’t be like that and also no hotness with noro.

MyDcAreMarvel · 30/06/2018 00:37

Hope you feel better soon either way .

MsHomeSlice · 30/06/2018 00:37

can you get hold of any PeptoBismol...it's a wonder drug for any digestive issues imo.

anyone else feeling iffy? Have you check FB??

I am very precious about other people's BBQ food...as in would almost never partake, hope it's not too awful.

tracymartel · 30/06/2018 00:40

Ooh think I have some PeptoBismol in medicine cabinet from when DP was sick.

Have just messaged my friend who was there to ask how she feels.

Feeling reaaaaally sick now but no fever

It could be staphylococcus toxin. Nasty but short lived, but I’m not sure you’d be ok tomorrow.

TeddyIsaHe · 30/06/2018 01:04

3 hours didn’t enough time for the bacteria to multiply enough to start making you feel ill, so I don’t think it’s food poisoning. Most likely a big. Stay hydrated and hope you feel better soon!

TeddyIsaHe · 30/06/2018 01:05

*bug

ShesSoUnusual · 30/06/2018 01:13

I got food poisoning within that time frame. Started the same as yours did OP and then got very bad, very quick. Fingers crossed for you that it's just a bug. Food poisoning is horrific.

Slanetylor · 30/06/2018 02:17

Not enough time for a bug to start multiplying, but the bacteria could have produced a toxin while growing in the food. The toxin can work in s few hours. Staph or bacillus can produce toxins like that. I’d associate bacillus toxin with rice ( and a certain Chinese restaurant I now have to walk quickly passed)

Madupfam · 30/06/2018 03:21

I got back from a camping trip this afternoon had BBQ night before going through the same thing OP. I hope you feel better soon , I won't be eating belly pork slices for a while that's for sure!

Pastaagain78 · 30/06/2018 08:40

How are you this morning?

tracymartel · 30/06/2018 21:11

Sorry back to update! I was sick once this morning and have been feeling rather delicate all day with frequent loo trips but it hasn't turned into anything too awful... phew. Think I've lost my enthusiasm for barbecues though

louise987 · 30/06/2018 21:18

In that timescale if it's as a result of the BBQ it is more likely a d&v bug like norovirus. These hot quick but thankfully are also over with in about 24/48 hours.

Food poisoning bugs from chicken/pork have a longer incubation period (average 3-7 days dependent on bug) so it's unlikely to be the bbq, however it's feasible you caught a food poisoning bug in the previous week it's only now the effects are being seen.

If you struggle to keep any fluids down, have reduced urine output or see blood in any stools let your GP know and it's highly likely they will want a stool sample - it's important you do this for follow up purposes (exclusion etc) and please remember while you're ill practice good hand hygiene to prevent onward spread to anyone else in your house.
Hoping you have a speedy recovery!

Pastaagain78 · 30/06/2018 21:29

Feel better soon

DwangelaForever · 30/06/2018 21:37

Could be food poisoning but could also be gastroenteritis, my whole house was down with it in tandem last week, I was lucky enough to have diarrhoea and vomiting, two days later my toddler had just vomiting and two days after her my hubby had just diarrhoea. Thank god for the hot weather because I haven't got through that many towels and bedsheets in ages 😂
