He was sick this morning a couple of times but he has a chesty cough too so i put it down to that.

He had a sleep but has woken up with a temperature of 38. He has just been sick a tiny bit but just water as i haven't given him much to eat today.

He seems fine in himself, just a bit sleepy and very hot.

I dont want to take him docs if they are going to just say he has a bug there is nothing they can do about it, as its a half hour walk. Im going to ring at 5.30 and speak to a doc.

Ive given him calpol to bring his temperature down, and he just has his nappy on and he is drinking water.

He also has cough medicine. am i doin all the right things?

You're doing all of the right things.

A lukewarm bath might help as well.

Do you have children's nurofen? Alternating that with calpol every three/four hours is the best way of dealing with his temp.

When he starts eating plain foods such as toast are the best.

These are exactly the symptoms my ds displayed last week. I gave him Calpol, placed a blanket over him and laid him on the settee.

He slept from five in the evening right through to the following morning, and he was as right as rain after that!

I hope you have the same, happy outcome

juicychops · 24/05/2007 16:42

Yeah, me too. Im sure he will be ok. like i said, apart from lookin a bit sleepy and dozy, he seems his happy self. Hes sitting on the sofa in his nappy playing his bob the builder game eating a bit of dry french stick!

not got any children's nurofen so il have to stick with the calpol but might get some tomorrow so i have it for next time.

it is ok to give cough medicine (tixylix) with calpol isnt it...?

Yes, it's OK to do that.

I'm sure it's just a bug.

DD had this last weekend. Very sleepy, temp of 39 and very grumpy, but no other symptoms. We gave her calpol, cool baths and as much sleep as she wanted. You are doing the right thngs, keep him hydrated though.
