Can toddlers get hayfever?

My toddler (19 mnths) has had a runny nose and gunky eyes for nearly 2 weeks now, with a bit of a cough.

The nose seems worse when we are out.

Is it possible it is teeth related or can small children get hayfever?

Im bodering on a trip to doctors tomorrow.

they must be able to i would have thought, little ones have allergies to other things at that age so why not pollen etc.

As speccy says, it is possible, but quite rare. Children's immune systems develop over a number of years and their responses to allergens (and infections) change as they grow.

If I were you, I would go to the docs, if only to put my mind at rest. My rule of thumb is if they don't seem to be getting better after a week, I take them to docs.

When my oldest son was two he was at a nursery p/t, one day we were told to fetch him, his eyes were incredibly swollen and his nose was streaming, the nursery and local doctor had rightly diagnosed hay fever! When we visited our own medical practice the doctor just sat there and told us he was too young! It was hay fever, he reacted then and since to trees, particularly willows. Interestingly he was later to be dignosed with autism and found to be gluten intolerant, last year at the age of 13 he managed to return to a normal diet for the first time without ill effect, he also has not had hay fever for 2 years, (but that could be due to the ghastly weather).

My DD is 3.6 and has suffered with Hayfever since she was 9 months old - My GP didn't beleive it, but my CM noticed it every time she went in the garden in the summer - swollen red eyes, streaming with tears and runny nose, blocked up at night. She still suffers - and has the gunky in the eyes in the morning. So ignore the - she / he is too young!
