Hayfever whilst breastfeeding. Anything other than prevalin

Does anyone know what can be used for bad hayfever whilst bf? At the pharmacy they said only prevalin but i got the impression the lady i asked was not exactly sure and bee lined just for prevalin. It burns my nose to pieces, has a horrid after taste and doesnt seem as strong as the beconase i used to use. Is beconase an option does anyone know? I can't find any firm answers

My GP said that either certrazine or Loratadine were both fine whilst breastfeeding, so I’ve been taking certrazine for a few days. My hayfever has been 1000 times worse this year!

When I asked at the pharmacy first, they said I’d need to speak to my GP - I think they have to be cautious about recommending anything for breastfeeding mums, but the GP was very relaxed about it and didn’t think there would be any issue with taking them. I felt very reluctant to take anything whilst feeding but needs must - this bout of hayfever has been like having a heavy cold! Sympatheties if you’re suffering!

My gp wouldn't give me ceiterizine, loradatine or even piriton! She looked it up on the computer while I was there and the standard line seems to be "anti histamines are present in breast milk in varying amounts" (this was specifically ceiterizine and piriton) so she said I couldn't use any. Got the nasal spray and eye drops but they do very little for me.

My pharmacist checked when I asked and it was only crappy prevalin that she said I could use as antihistamines go into breast milk.

I was told when in hospital that the Breastfeeding Network is the be all and end all when it comes to drugs and breast feeding. They say basically any non-drowsy antihistamine is fine, as are nasal sprays. Full info here: www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/drugs-factsheets/

Thanks all. It looks like i should be ok with beconase then. What a relief. I literally wont be able to function without some relief. Its been horrendous this year
