Phoned out of hours surgery at hospital as temp was 39.5 celsius , dont know what the farenheit is ?? ended up explaning her status 3 times on various calls that they make to you. After all that theres reallly nothing they can do & all I can do is altrenate nurofen with disprol and teething powder and keep her stripped with flannels. Im just bedraggled now and have holidays in like 2 days arrrrrrgghhhhhhhh , poor little mite lost her smile and hope she finds it again soon. Just wanted to let it out , as been difficult couple of days.

Oh dear how terrible for you - sounds silly but do you think you could take her out in the fresh air in the pushchair - that may help??

(I know I am trying to cheer you up but maybe she is just shocked at having a mummy that looks as thuogh she has been Tangoed?? )

coppertop · 13/08/2004 09:16

Poor you. Lots of sympathy here as ds2 has been going through something similar over the past 2 days - complete with a collection of mystery spots. Today's the 3rd day and (touchwood) he seems to be getting better. Fingers crossed that your dd will be better in time for your holiday.

tinytoes · 13/08/2004 09:17

melsy sory to hear your dd is unwell
her temp is high ,if it was one of my two i would take them to be checked out pref. at docs (or casualty) no matter what they said on phone(just to make sure for your peace of mind as well as for her)- are you sure is it def. just teething (if not can you get her to docs)
39.5 is high when my ds was ill with bad flu they said boundary for normal temp was 37.5

as im always recomending on here homeopathic chamomilla is really good for soothing them when they are in pain or very fretful.
my ds was like this during the night a few weeks ago and it was the only thing i had in and it worked brilliantly
hth

Im meant to be going to docs this afternoon for myself so I think I will get her in too. LOL twinkie at orange scare !!!Coppertop shes has funny little rash too??????? may be it is a virus??

I took ds2 to see the doctor yesterday. She asked if he'd had his MMR. When I said yes she said that it was a cold - and then ran after me into the waiting room to give me a sample bottle "in case it's an infection". Mind you, she didn't exactly fill me with confidence. She asked how old ds2 was so I said 18 months. She replied:

"Well that's what it says on his notes but he doesn't have many teeth does he?"

melsy · 13/08/2004 09:34

Ive just phoned docs and theyve asked me to bring her in straight after her sleep. The minute I mentioned speckly rash & V high temp the alarm was raised. God sometimes NHS direct are crappolla , the GP on the phone sounded like he couldnt be bothered. trust me to have gone out last night for my sisters 30th. I hardly ever go out in the evenings. Always the way!! Bless her little thing

have you given her calpol- this is best for reducing temperature-sorry if you have already

scrumpy · 13/08/2004 09:50

Melsey...do not want to cause you any additional worry but last week I took my 6 month old ds into casualty as he had been off colour for a few days not eating etc and screaming as if in pain he also had a rash on his back and tummy when he got in there he was put on a drip and had scans/lumbar puncture etc.... the upshot of it all is that he had some unknown virus and had become dehydrated through not eating/drinking and a bit of diahorrea due to his distressed state they made sure he was given antibiotics etc i had gone to drs on the monday but they could not find anything wrong...i was in hospital for 3 days ds is fine now..its good to get second opinion for peace of mind get her checked, hope she feels better soon.

tinytoes · 13/08/2004 09:51

She has been drinking less and theres been no pooh now for 24hrs. Ive given her a little diluted orange juice incase shes blocked up. Shes also eaten less, but last night at 6 she was having a calmer little window and ate quite abit. It seems to come in awaves every few hours , shes calmer now and still asleep , all be it intermittently between little cries. I am quite worried as shes never got like this before. appt 11:20 so going in to town soon .

boy im tired now , back from docs. Im glad I took advice and went back for 2nd opinion. She has upper respitory tract infection ; her glands are swollen like golf balls and her throat is very red. Im upset as I didnt even think to check her throat , we just thought it was bad teething, but shes never had it like this before, so I had a feeling it could have been something else. I cant believe that night shift gp on the telephone didnt even want to see her, theyve had the cheeck to put on her notes (as I saw on the screen) home visit!!! I hate to think what would have happened if Id left it , as Doc today siad there was a chnce that she was going to see pus in her throat had it been more acute. Thank god there wasnt ,as she said it would have to be removed, aaarrrrrrrgggggh . I now have antibiotcs for 7 days to be on the safe side as were going to France & my mums sorting out an E111 incase we need any treament there. she seems a little bit happier after a nice nap in her buggy laying down in the fresh air. She s very lollopy though and forlorn.

OP posts:

So glad you went to the doctor with her and got something sorted. Would be sad for you not to make this trip to Disney.
