Ok, I need an ultrasound, don't I?

I was told this a few weeks ago when I'd bled for 5 weeks. I ignored medical advice after I'd paused for a few days but a huge chunk just came out tonight and I can't ignore it any longer.

So can either minor injuries or a walk in centre might do it?

Not really clear what you're talking about but you need to see your gp who will refer you, you generally can't walk into minor injuries and ask for an ultrasound

LanguidLobster · 21/06/2018 21:40

I mean period bleeding. I was supposed to go before but I welched it. I can't go to a GP but thanks for telling me minor injuries is not doable. It's started again with huge chunks so I'll have to man up and get it dealt with

Are you bleeding heavily? It sounds like you need to phone 111.

LanguidLobster · 21/06/2018 21:58

Bleeding heavily and one lump diameter 1 inch and one 2 inches by 1. Not pregnant. I'll call 111, thanks. I thought this was over.

I have no experience of this type of issue but definitely worth phoning. That's what the service is for. Please follow their advice this time though so hopefully it can all be sorted quickly and safely. Good luck Flowers

LanguidLobster · 21/06/2018 22:31

Doctor phoning back later, I'm not going anywhere tonight. Embarassingly enough I passed a clot whilst on the phone to 111 and bled all over the landing.

They said to go to casualties not a&e, I assume the sudden onset and volume. I've kept clots in box, gross.

Actually that is gross. Thanks for listening to me Blush

How are you this morning?

LanguidLobster · 23/06/2018 11:15

Thanks Leslie, it all went a bit ballistic after that and I went into hospital. I haemorrhaged basically.

No diagnosis as yet although they thought I might have to have a blood transfusion at first and was relieved when that didn't happen.

I guess it's a lesson not to ignore period problems! I was exploding chunks everywhere.

So yes much better, on medication and nappies

What an absolute nightmare. You poor thing! I'm glad you got to hospital and that you didn't need a transfusion. I've had a few though and they do rather perk you up Grin I hope the bleeding calms down soon and that they can work out what's going on and fix it Flowers

LanguidLobster · 23/06/2018 11:50

Leslie are you a standard blood group? I found out I'm an A+.

What was yours for?

I have to go back in 2 weeks for more testing but I would assume it wasn't menopausal since blood tests were clear and everything else was, I was just very indignant the next morning at being attached to drips and wanted to go home ASAP.

Bleeding's stopped completely now (they gave me norethisterone) but I would really advise anyone else not to ignore erratic periods like I did.

You've been really kind and helpful, thanks :)

Glad to hear you're ok.

I agree with Leslie I had a couple of transfusions recently and I felt so much better after them.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 24/06/2018 10:41

I'm B+. Mine have been mostly for chemo side effects.

I'm glad the bleeding has stopped. You must feel exhausted after all of that. I have no idea about menopause/gynae stuff but I'll keep my fingers crossed for your tests Flowers

dahliaaa · 24/06/2018 22:56

How old are you lobster?
I'm late 40's and had 6 weeks of bleeding earlier this year with flooding / clots etc. GP referred me for scan. Glad you got seen.

LanguidLobster · 25/06/2018 19:55

@dahliaaa Late thirties. Did anything show with your scan? Sounds very similar situation to me.

dahliaaa · 26/06/2018 15:45

A thickened womb lining showed up on mine - but what they were looking for (and what's probably more relevant to you) was fibroids etc.

dahliaaa · 26/06/2018 15:48

Sorry meant to add - I've had v heavy periods since my late 30's (flooding / clotting etc) but had put up with it because I thought it was just what happened.
I really should have gone sooner so it's going is that you are seeing someone.
If everything comes back clear they may offer you a mirena.

LanguidLobster · 26/06/2018 20:08

@dahliaaa hmm, thank you.

I'll give it a week and if I haven't had the testing letter by then, call them. Luckily norethisterone works. They did tranexamic acid upon arrival at hospital, don't know why they switched, although I'm not bothered about which drug if it's effective.

Thank you!

Oh FFS I forgot medication today and I felt contractions just now and am bleeding again. I'll take it now and haven't had letter from hospital yet but hopefully that will happen soon or else I'll chase them u
