Hi all

My cousin (60) lives in Africa and started having pains about four years ago which she put down to digestion but which were actually gynae (she has been in denial) Started getting a fat tummy, realised it was serious a had a scan two weeks ago which showed a 9cm tumour in the uterus and her doc told her to come home to UK for treatment.

She's seen a doc here for bloods etc, and waiting for hospital appointment. There's also a lump at the site of her sterilisation (done 30yrs ago). She is not curious, doesn't want to know what will happen, is plainly terrified but putting a stoical face on it. Her sister died of pancreatic cancer a few years ago and she is scared of being that ill. I don't know anything about this cancer and wondered if anyone can tell me what's likely to happen and how likely she is to survive it. Tell me the worst so I can mentally prepare myself. She's my favourite cousin Sad

Thank you

I'm sorry to hear about your cousin. Did the doctor actually confirm that it was cancer or just that she has a tumour? I'm afraid there are just far too many variables for anyone on the internet to be able to tell you anything useful at the moment. I hope that your cousin can get the treatment she needs quickly Flowers

If you're close, could you offer to go with her to her appointment for support? Assuming she doesn't have a partner or child who would go with her. It can be helpful to have a second pair of ears and someone to make notes as she probably won't take everything in.

I have a similar kind of growth (mine is only about 4cm not 9cm and just one of them) that I am having removed in the next few weeks. I have been told mind is likely to be a polyp but that they will examine it properly when it is out.

I have been doing my research into polyps in the uterus and they are fairly common and can grow to that kind of size so that is quite possibly what she has. Don't panic that it is cancer, it might not be.
