IN the last 2 weeks DS (20mo) has had (1) a cold, (2) fever (3) vomiting and now (4) spots! Are they all related?

I'm getting pretty sick of being stuck in the house with a sick kid! He seems to be feeling better today after yesterdays fever and vomiting. But now i noticed that he has about 20 or so spots on the bottom.
are they just a viral rash or what? We're meant to go out today with my pregnant friend and her little one. should i cancel?

purplemonkeydishwasher · 22/05/2007 09:55

not that i know of. but it's contagious before the spots come out isn't it?
actually we haven't been out very much lately because of (1) (2) and (3) so i'm not sure!

The cold and sickness can be a sign of chicken pox,but perhaps its just nappy rash.Have you changed the nappies you use.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 22/05/2007 10:06

nope. same nappies. his bum isn;t red at all. and the spots are quite high up. almost at his back. i think i might pop in to see the HV to see what she says.

Are they spots with a blister?

purplemonkeydishwasher · 22/05/2007 12:55

i'm not sure. they're still pretty small.

but in the last hour he's been sick 3 times. and is crying and miserable. a completely different kid to this morning.

Hello. I have a spotty DD (9 months) who's had amost identical symptoms since Saturday. Her rash suddenly appeared last nightthe spots are tiny and pink/red, and started on her bottom but those fadedthey are now everywhere except her face and torso. My GP's going to take a look at her this afternoon.
When DS had chicken pox he didn't have fever or vomiting, and the spots were more like blisters.
Anyway hope yours is just a viral rash so you can go out--I'm pretty sure that's what's wrong with DD.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 22/05/2007 19:45

i was starting to get worried this afternoon. DS was very very lethargic and couldn't keep anything down. and he still had taht rash. so i got an emergency appt with the gp. he said it was a viral rash and a gastro thingy bug. thank god. i won't tell you that i was on the meningitis website checking his symptoms.
he seems a bit brighter now. has a couple of ice lollies. hasn't been sick in over an hour.
fingers crossed that we get through the night without an episode!

I was doing the same on the NHS direct website. I think it's important, nothing to be embarrassed about!
DD's got a viral rash too. GP says I've got to keep her away from anyone pg or trying to get pg in case it's German measles. Which means I have perfect excuse to ask nosy questions.

Arabica · 23/05/2007 00:37

Glad your little one seems a bit better.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 23/05/2007 11:37
