Could I have broken my ankle a week ago?

Just over a week ago DS who is a specialist fast bowler, bowled a tennis ball which Incompletely managed to miss and it hit me on the ankle.

The pain was excruciating but I limped away and had my foot up for the rest of the evening. I'm still in constant low level pain with very painful flare ups after walking or driving.
I'm thinking because I can still walk etc it can't be broken can it? And it was only a tennis ball and it didn't even bruise. If it's not broken why does it still hurt so much?and is there any point going to the Dr which would be a right faff on of just keep taking the ibuprofen.

go to a minor injuries unit for an x-ray. Even a tennis ball bowled at those speeds can cause serious damage

It won't be broken if you can walk. Maybe badly bruised and maybe even the bone is dented. I still have some sensitivity on my shin and a small indentation from a high speed hockey ball that hit me, 40 years ago.

Bubblysqueak · 08/06/2018 16:25

yes it can be broken even if you can walk on it. my db broke a small bone on the side of his foot just below ankle bone and was still bale to walk about on it. we thought he was a right drama queen until he eventually went to miiu and it turned out it was broken.

My FIL walked on a broken leg for months before he sought medical advice for the continuing pain and had an x ray. So yes, it's perfectly possible.

I fell down a few stairs and landed badly. Walked on that broken ankle for about a month.
Get it checked.

Crap with the if it was broken you wouldn't be able to walk.

One month after a tibia displacement fracture, I went to the doctors again, sent for MRI then finally got confirmation it was broken. Over 2 months later. Also had torn my cartilage

Meanwhile, Mum & DH had decided I was making a fuss about nothing - I did not let them forget that!!

Yes. I walked (hobbled) about with one for about 6 weeks before I went over it, and had it checked out. By then it was too late to do anything, and now I have a silly bump on the side if my leg that just looks fat. It is grim.

Thank you, DH thinks I am being a drama queen I will go to Minor Injuries (If we have one) just to know for certain. The odd thing is I was thinking I'm going to get a lovely bruise from that and it hasnt bruised at all!

Mine didn't bruise either. Did swell but no bruise. Will minor injuries have x Ray? Ours doesn't outside of office hours.
If you're going then get a move on before the Friday night drunks pile in!

I know of two people (one being my gran) who broke bones in ankles and walked on them for years before anyone realised
