Red knuckle but no injury (picture): what is it?

Does anyone have any idea what caused this redness on my knuckle? I have not knocked it, or been bitten by anything. It's been there for 2 days now, same colour as it was when I first noticed it. It is darker than it looks in this picture, BTW.
