Cats for what its worth I have a child with a severe congenital cardiac problem who had his 1st op at a few days old and is now 4! He's had further ops and will need more in future but he is a lovely bright happy welladjusted miracle ! It is hard (HELL) at times when he's ill but we have learned a lot and I haven't had a bad hair day since he was born!!! It just changes your perspective on everything. Its such a shock when you find out but babies are amazing at coping with stuff and I'm sure yours will too.
very best of luck... keep me posted...

Cats,
hello from a fellow mum of a heart baby. My daughter was missing the wall between her ventricles (pumping chambers) and also had another hole in the wrong place. She had surgery when she was 7 weeks old. The first three months or so of her life were really stressful. She was very sick before her surgery and suffered numerous serious complications afterwards. But now she is 8 months old, and, despite the fact that she also has the added challenge of Down's Syndrome, pretty much like any other eight month old baby. She's healthy and chubby.
Have you been given the heartline goody bag (containing literature and cuddly toy) by your cardiology clinic? Heartline also have a web site: www.heartline.org.uk/ where you can get in touch with parents whose children have the same heart defect as yours.
