Conjunctivitis not getting better? I'm unwell in myself too

Hi all. On Thursday just gone, I noticed my eye was quite sore and red but I didn't think much of it because usually it will just go away on its own. The next day, my eye was still no better and I noticed I was not really feeling myself, either. I was feeling a bit run down and lethargic. By the end of the day on Friday, I was exhausted and my other eye started going red and hurting!

On Saturday, my whole body, muscles and joints was aching to the core. Every time I stood up, my legs would give way and I'd have to get back down again and I have a very high temperature as well. Both of my eyes at this point starting getting discharge and crusty. I rang 111 and they advised me to go to the pharmacy and that it sounds like an allergy... Hmm anyway, the pharmacist gave me antibiotic ointment for both my eyes, I've followed the instructions to a T and it's not made a blind bit of difference! In fact, my eyes seem to be crusting and discharging even more!

I am trying to get hold of the doctors now but does anybody think that this is a viral thing? I'm so worried about my eyesight at the minute! I am feeling shit as well. Got a banging headache, a temperature and my throat and ear feels like I'm swallowing sharp razor blades

The adenovirus which causes colds also can cause conjunctivitis which can make you feel awful. Could be this.

Hi. Thank you for your reply. I've been prescribed antibiotics and they took a swab of my eye as well. I was thinking it could be adenovirus too but then I suppose they wouldn't have given me antibiotics if it was? Better to be safe than sorry.
