Does this sound like food poisoning to you?

Dh started feeling weird on Thursday night. He says he felt very down and couldn’t think why.
The next day after an afternoon nap (lucky him!) he started shivering and felt extremely tired and then the stomach problems started. He doesn’t feel sick at all and isn’t bunged up and snotty. Just upset stomach, shivering and high temperature and terrible headaches especially behind the eyes.
He’s no better and has slept all weekend apart from dashing to the loo. He says his muscles ache.
What does it sound like to you?
I’ll phone the doctor when they open in the morning.

Doesn't sepsis have a 'sense of doom' feeling? So feeling very low? I could be wrong but cant rule it out.

Realitea · 03/06/2018 21:45

Oh gosh you’re right. I remember reading that before too.

I think there’s some very weird virus going round because I had exactly this three weeks ago. I’m still not ok. I had everything you have described including the feeling ‘down’. It started on a Thursday evening three weeks back and I didn’t get out of bed, apart from to visit the loo which thankfully was only feet away, until the following Friday. I have been hospitalised twice with pneumonia and had proper flu many times (not the bad cold flu, the actual real fluGrin) and I have never felt as ill as I did these last few weeks. Incidentally, the second week I developed the weirdest rash which was exactly as if I had been very badly sunburnt (I hadn’t left my bedroom!) and that’s when I finally went to the doctor. Because he thought the rash was weird and because of other descriptions of the way the illness developed, he did a blood test and did mention he was a bit concerned about sepsis, but, no, nothing showed up out of the ordinary. It was just a bizarre viral infection. Hope he feels better soon but don’t be surprised if it takes a while.

Oh dear that sounds awful! Did anyone else catch it in your family? I would hate for us all to get this.
Dh’s Temperature isn’t too bad, it’s 37.6 and he’s quiet but coherent thank god! Asleep most the time.
I believe that when the body is inflamed it can cause you to feel down and is one of the causes of depression so it would make sense when your body’s fighting something for you to feel very down too.
I’ll see how he is in the morning. I might sleep downstairs tonight and hope me and the dc’s don’t catch it!

I’m old, I don’t know what 37.6 is Grin, I had a temp of 104 for the first two days then hovered around 100-102 for the next three days and then for another few days it kept going over 100 and back down to 99, I could tell in myself I was getting a bit better though so didn’t bother the doc til the rash. No, luckily no one else caught it but I did quarantine myself in my bedroom/bathroom. I put was lucky that DH could be working at home so he looked after the DDs and ddog so I literally didn’t have to come down the stairs. I really did not want anyone else getting it.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 03/06/2018 22:18

The shivers were uncontrollable. I had my jammies on, DH jammies on over the top, a duvet, two eiderdowns, a pair of socks, and a pair of fleece gloves and the heating on! I’d been reading a book about Everest and I sincerely thought I was going mad and coming out in sympathy with the frostbite! Actually, reading that back I’m not sure why I didn’t call a doctor sooner. Must be too many MN threads where OP is told not to call a doctor unless their leg is hanging off.......

I've had this! This week. Started weds. Feeling really aggy & not my normal self. Awful disoriented feeling awful sickness & headaches. Finally felt more myself Saturday afternoon. No one else seemed to catch it & I don't normally do sick but I spent all Saturday in bed & Friday on the sofa not wanting to move. How odd. I thought I was going crazy but I just had no energy I felt dreadful. Hope he's feeling better soon!

Paracetamol for the temperature and lots of fluids and a few days rest. He sounds as though he has picked up a bug.

Realitea · 03/06/2018 22:48

I feel for you all who’ve picked up this illness, it sounds awful. It does sound like a bug really. Paracetamol has stopped the shivering for now.
So now I’m just going to hope we don’t all get it!

Yeah lots of fluids is the key in order to flush out the bug from their body.
