was wondering how her rash is?

foxy, you around?

Dd's skin is just awful today, around her entire mouth is as though all the surface has been burnt off, flame red raw. It's never been so bad. On her genitals it's not as bad as her face but I noticed tonight one very huge yellow-headed spot so like an acne spot I wondered if rosacia (can't remember how to spell it) might have something to do with it? I'm going to google it now but wondered if you'd encoutered it in any of your various searches. Roll on Monday, thank goodness it's happening so quickly.

foxinsocks · 09/06/2007 21:34

not sure you get the yellow spots with that?

ooh that sounds painful. Is she alright (considering)?

Thank goodness they are seeing her quickly.

She's very fed up. She was awake from 4-6am itching constantly and very frustrated. This morning she resembles someone who has had some harsh acid poured over areas of her face. I'm really getting so at my wit's end with it and the feeling of absolute hopelessness. She's been on these antibiotics for 3 weeks now and it's been steadily getting worse plus the antibiotics make her tummy bad.

I so hope there's something even slightly immediate the consultant can do tomorrow to alleviate the situation.

imaginaryfriend · 10/06/2007 10:35

this is who we're seeing tomorrow. Funnily enought it would have been who we'd have paid £300 to see if we'd gone privately!

foxinsocks · 10/06/2007 15:25

my goodness, IF, he looks fantastic! He sounds like he is EXACTLY the right person to be seeing!

Just a tip, and PLEASE ignore if you have thought of all of this....I found writing down a list of questions that I wanted answering really helpful. Just that, quite often, the whole ocassion is a bit overwhelming (and obviously, you're mainly thinking of dd) and sometimes, it's helpful at the end of the consultation to have a quick glance down the list to see if there's anything that hasn't been addressed.

I will think of you tomorrow and only hope he can help. Poor dd and you all.

I have done that actually, fox. And a huge list of all the things she's been given so far which consists of 9 different creams and 3 different oral antibiotics!

He looks brilliant doesn't he? We were just discussing again lately whether or not to try to find the money to go privately and it turns out we can see him on the NHS. Phew ...

We should get blood results back too and I'm hoping for a biopsy with local anaesthetic rather than general.

Fingers crossed. We go at 2.30pm. Her face is really awful today, the worst ever. And the areas are spreading so much, even her cheeks are getting little spots on them.

foxinsocks · 10/06/2007 19:22

yes, everything crossed for 2.30pm. Let's hope, even if he can't give you 'the answer', he can find something to alleviate her suffering in the meantime.

You're reading my mind fox, I just added that point to my list of things to remember to say. There must be something we can give her that hydrates the skin and takes away the rawness. Surely there must. I felt so self-conscious for her today, I could see so many people staring at her. She's such an attractive girl and this looks so nasty.

I spoke to the teachers last week to ask them to have a carpet time chat about eczema as she's told me a few kids have commented at school.

The entire area around her mouth, nose and chin feels like sandpaper to touch and is literally raw red skin. Poor dd.

OMG IF david atherton is the man to be seeing. honestly, he is fantastic. i fought for 18months to get dd1 referred to dermotology and was on the point of going private to see atherton, when she finally got referred. her local dermo (dr o'docherty at hertford general) is fantastic and get her sorted on the first visit. now she sees once a year if that, just for 'maintance' really.

good luck for tomorrow.

imaginaryfriend · 10/06/2007 21:52

She's never had a cold sore but yes, she had chickenpox a few weeks ago. I think this had started before then though. But it's definitely got worse since then.

Do you have an idea?

imaginaryfriend · 10/06/2007 21:53

Chickenpox two months ago I should say.

misdee · 10/06/2007 21:53

KM, i think i have just twigged what you think it may be

imaginaryfriend · 10/06/2007 21:56

Are you suggesting herpes? I've wondered too but she's had various skin scrapes / swabs taken and it hasn't shown any obvious infections. Would herpes show up like that I wonder? Would it look obvious? She's seen so many people now that if it did look obvious I'm sure they would have picked up on it?

imaginaryfriend · 10/06/2007 21:56

But now you've mentioned it, I'll definitely bring the chickenpox to the dermatologist's attention tomorrow. Thanks.

misdee · 10/06/2007 21:58

i think its related to herpes, but i cant remember its full name.

misdee · 10/06/2007 21:59

eczema herpeticum

imaginaryfriend · 10/06/2007 22:02

Ok, I'll google it now misdee, thanks. You can tell I'm desperate can't you? The slightest lead and I'm googling like a loony. I think I could get a job as a dermatologist with the amount of information I'm amassing!

quite distressing pics of eczema herpethingywotsit

misdee · 10/06/2007 22:08

i used to belong to a great yahoo group for kids with eczema, but it went quiet a few years ago as the kids outgrew it, they were a great resource for new treatments etc.

imaginaryfriend · 10/06/2007 22:12

I don't think that can be it. Dd's not unwell with a fever or swollen glands or anything like that and this has been going on for quite some time including two months (at least) since she had chickenpox. Eczema herpeticum seems to start within weeks of the herpes infection entering skin with eczema.

I wonder though if there's a milder version of this condition which takes longer to invade the skin? It has definitely got worse since the chickenpox. And all the medications she's been given seem to make it worse.
