with diarrhoea and has been sick once. He's in loads of pain now in his upper stomach (can't sit or stand) Is there anything he can do for it?

I'd phone nhs direct tbh.

Although my mum always swore by flat lemonade (!)

It either made you better, or made you sick and in turn made you better!

Hope he feels well soon.

is it food poisoning?

DANCESwithnewlytannedlegs · 20/05/2007 20:38

Haven't got any lemonade - I could go and get some. He's had a couple of ginger biscuits at lunch which always help me but that's not helped at all, in fact he's felt worse during the day

I would phone NHS Direct too. Or Out of hours doctors if it's a different number. Flat lemonade is good as it rehydrates you.

mummytosteven · 20/05/2007 20:39

paracetamol and rehydration fluids. and agree about NHS Direct regarding the plain.

lulumama · 20/05/2007 20:39

oh dear

needs to replace the fluid he has lost

what sort of pain?

if he is very bad, call NHS direct 0845 46 47

DANCESwithnewlytannedlegs · 20/05/2007 20:39

He's not sure. He was out with friends yesterday and they shared food but it didn't start until this morning so I though fp happened quicker than that?

make him keep drinking (flat coke if you have that?)

if you think it is Proper Pain as opposed to really bad cramps (which can come with horrid tummy bugs/food poisoning), I would take him to A&E tbh.

DANCESwithnewlytannedlegs · 20/05/2007 20:40

Sort of pacing around grimacing, squatting down but then groaning and standing up again and pacing, looks a bit like I did when I was in labour

fp starts any time within 24 hrs ish

LadyOfTheFlowers · 20/05/2007 20:41

oooh.
nearly the whole town had this a few months ago. me included.
the pain was so bad in the top of my stomach i actually thought i was dying or had something terribly wrong with me.
i rang nhs direct and a doc called me.
he told me to take 2 paracetamol for the pain and not eat or drink for at least 3 hours, just rinse mymouth as and when.
the stomach needs to rest, the pains are from muscle spasms.
paracetamol does not upset the stomach so should stay down.
if he takes them, then goes to sleep, he will feel much better when he wakes up, with the occaisional cramp, but keep taking paracetamol.

it sounds the same as what i had anyway!

PanicPants · 20/05/2007 20:42

I'd give NHS direct ring now.

Lets us know what they say.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 20/05/2007 20:42

i was honestly in tears on the phone when i called!

DANCESwithnewlytannedlegs · 20/05/2007 20:43

I've just read your post to him LoftF and he says that sounds like it so I'm off to give him some paracetemol. Thanks folks. If he develops any other symptoms I think I'll give NHS direct a call.
