Best treatment for an infected finger?

DD been seriously biting her nails. Unsurprisingly her finger is red and swollen at the bottom edge of her nail.
What would you recommend?
I've suggested a salt water dunk for as long as possible- which might soften it up.
Help!

She will need antibiotics quickly if it is as bad as you say-you don't want to end up in hospital having the nail removed! ParonychiaS are not nice!

DP has this - got bad on Saturday, he got antibiotics from our GP on Tuesday last week, it was nasty but has settled nicely now.

We did salt water in the meantime.

Salt water dunks have always worked for the Silvercat family. You do have to keep the body part submerged for a while though.

Bath it in warm salty water.
