I finally have my (provisionally) date for my hysteroscopy to investigate the Asherman's Syndrome thing fully. I know I will behaving a general anaethsetic for it.

At present I don't know nany more. i will have a pre op appointment a week or so beforehand.

Anyone had a hysteroscopy? What was it like? And afterwards?

Never had a general either - eek!

Had one last year before had hysterectomy, felt fine after albeit a bit odd? You aren't out for that long (well I wasn't) can't even remember if had spotting, know I was done as a day case.

Sorry can't be more help, but good luck

i did not have any pain relief for mine

general??????

it was fine and wow the uterus is a fab organ

it was uncomfortale but NOTHING like labour - why a general?

Hulababy · 18/05/2007 20:58

Yes, this is a day case. I am not sure at present if they will treat any Asherman's during it - I did get the impression that they woul, but not sure.

I am expecting pain afterwards. At the moment just a normal internal exam leads to soreness and pain for a couple fo days. Just not sure if I should expect much worse or not.

I need a general in case they do treat the sherman's I guess. Plus for the pain - they said cervial shock, possibly as I already have a fair bit of pain there anyway, one of my current symptoms.

Otter - I also appear to have a very narrow cervix - they are still checking out cervical stenosis as well. So the cervical shock is partly related to that, as is the pain.

odd actually because i was in a sample group to asses pain
i had a group of experts present

i advised them that i could have done with somethng as it was quite uncomfortable but not too bad and tbh i found it all quite reassuring

Hulababy · 18/05/2007 21:06

Definitely don't won't NO pain relief! Ouch.

He did say that sometimes he does it under a local, but mine will be general.

do they sort of bloat you up with saline????

theheadgirl · 18/05/2007 21:26

Hi Hula, hope it goes well. I'm an ex-gynae nurse, this procedure was usually a straight forward look around (through the cervix) and I suspect you're having the GA to manage the pain, if you have cervical pain anyway. When I was an advisor at NHS direct one of our approved websites was Netdoctor.co.uk, so have a search on that for any info, good luck xx

I had a Hysteroscopy and d&c last week and was in as a day case, i went in at 12 and left again at half 4 and was in bed by 6 ! i had a GA aswell and it wasnt really anything to worry about, i had a bit of pain for a couple of hours afterwards and had co-codamol for it but i only needed 2 and i've not had any spotting really, just a bit immediatly afterwards. I had it on Tuesday and i am still a bit crampy but it just feels like usualy hormonal pains.. it might actually be hormonal pains i am not really sure lol.

I hope it goes well for you, i was terrified but wasnt a bad experience atall.. even the anesthatist was quite dishy ;)

if you want to ask me anything fire away but i am new to this site so i might take a while finding this bit again

good luck

Thanks all. All really useful to know. I will probably be bumping this as it gets closer and I get more nervous! Especially for the general bit.

Oh and I need everyone to wish for rain that day too. It clashes with DD's first sport's day I will send DH to it, for time out from the hospital, and a grandparent or two, but ideally I want it to rain so that the Sport's Day is cancelled and held on the reserve day the following week.
