Peri-menopause/Menopause - I hate Doctors!

I'll try to keep this brief. I am 41 yo and came off the combined pill in Feb because I wanted a break. To date no periods have returned. In March I was having hot flushes so had a blood test. FSH and LH levels were very high so Dr said I'd gone through the menopause. I said do you mean peri-menopause" and he said "Er yes". Then he said I had ovarian failure and should go back on the pill. I informed him the hot flushes had ceased and I had no other symptoms but he wasn't listening IMHO. Since then I have had lots of period type pains and pregnancy type symptoms though I am not pregnant. This week I has what I thought was a period coming but it didn't amount to more than some brown staining and a tiny amount of red blood. I have tender boobs, pelvic aches, stabbing pains near belly button and am getting so fed up. Today someone asked me if I was expecting as I look bloated. I have rang the Doctor again and can't get an appointment till 6.6.07. Is this peri menopause or something else. I am feeling so fed up now and don't want to be fobbed off again by the Dr.

So much for service in NHS. Can you get a 2nd opinion? It's ridiculous to have to wait so long for an appt.

I don't know much about the menopause - a friend went through it very quickly and didn't notice it, but she had a lot of health probs at the time anyway. I do hope you feel better soon, and sorry I'm no help.

i am 42 & ahve onlyl just got my periods back after stopping fedding in february - perhaps it is just your body adjusting to new hormone levels? I had symptoms like yours in February but was told thatit was an adjutdmetn period - also that perimenpause could be it but in reality all that measn is that periods etc become a bit less predicatbel.

Thanks for replying . I am going to ask for some more tests when I eventually get to see a GP. The GP I saw seemed to think I should be happy about not having any periods and said I didn't look 41 yo. Jee thanks I thought I've got some nice spots coming up now as well. Another thing is can I just start taking the pill again without a period or would I have to wait?
